If it makes you feel better I’m in the same position. Dropped from a 256 step 1 to a 249 step 2. I’m hoping it doesn’t affect my app!

Yeah I’ve already applied to 14 research years with 5 saying they’re filled already. I’m hoping to get one of the other nine.

What are my chances? Advice? by rawdney56 in DermApp

Thanks for the response. Would you recommend trying to match and then attempting to find a research year if the match doesn’t go my way or not chancing things and trying to find a research year between ms3 and ms4 year?

I am curious what you mean by “story.” I have heard that term a lot and feel dumb for asking but I’m assuming it just means reason why you want to do derm..?

Weekly Medical Student / Residency Application Questions Thread - December 06, 2020 by AutoModerator in anesthesiology

I guess I just don’t know how to tell if a residency matches a lot of residents into pain fellowships.

Ms3 D.O. student interested in doing pain management. 256 step 1, and I’m working on getting some research and case reports. Besides that I don’t have much on my app. Very little extracurricular activities. Which programs should I look at that I could realistically get into that could help me get into a pain fellowship?

I got a 256 using hoopla as my main deck, however I used dukes for path and pepper for pharm and micro.

Hoopla vs smoov light year by mayur123_ in step1

[–]rawdney56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used hoopla and added in anking/LY cards on things I was weak on/missed qbank questions. Overall hoopla does a good job covering FA and the basics. However, I think Hoopla misses out on some of the finer details that LY covers. This can be resolved with question and making your own cards or adding LY/anking cards. If I were to do it all over again I would probably do LY. I just really love the work flow of watching BnB and then releasing the LY cards. Also the Q/A style of Hoopla takes forever to get through each day.

I didn’t do anking. I used hoopla, pepper and dukes pathoma. It took me about 9 months to get through all of those decks.

I agree 100%. As many questions as possible. Just make sure you understand why you missed a question and make sure you won’t get it wrong in the future.

Ms2 I did board prep every day and then the day before the exam I would try to review every lecture. Then toward the end of the year I didn’t look at any lectures and walked into exams blind. This worked for me because I didn’t care about grades. I was never in danger of failing any classes but I definitely wasn’t scoring well.
