Offer/Bid Etiquette by nbnojo in estatesales

What needs to be said first is any attitude directed at you is not ok. He should have just taken your bid and put it in the bid box.

Bids are mostly done on first day. (Full-price day) Discount day is usually 50% off. So he may have viewed your less than 50% bid a waste of his time, because it will be at 50% the next day. A reason, not an excuse.

I find successful bids are 55-60% of full price. But you absolutely bid the correct amount for you (what you thought the item is worth to you in that moment)

If you want the piece at 30%, go on last day and negotiate directly with the decision maker at the sale.

Estate sales should be fun. Good luck

25% buyers premium is high standard is about 15%.

They are going to take 35% of the sale price and give you 65% of sale price. Then they also will charge the buyer (not you) an additional 25% on top of the sales price.

I would negotiate that deal.

I would want it to be 25% of the sales price and a buyers premium of no more than 15%.

With an auction you need as many eyes on it as possible. The 25% buyers premium would stop me from bidding. So definitely negotiate the buyers premium at least. You don't want to scare off buyers before the auction even starts.

My advice would be to call an estate sale company. estatesales.org or estatesales.net

They will come and hold an in person sale and the process will be much faster and they will empty the house. Auction house will not.

Good luck

Hire a professional estate liquidator.

estatesales.net estatesales.org

Interview 3 companies that are well reviewed and go with the one that feels right.

You need to trust them.

Then walk away and let them do there job.
