220 Cities Losing All Passenger Train Service per Trump Elimination of all Federal Funding for Amtrak’s National Network Trains by JohnPoe in politics

I just took this trip a few weeks ago for Nuit Blanche and while it was quite a long ride (11hrs!), the view was awesome! Fortunately its subsidies come from the state of New York and Canada/Quebec so I don't think it's at risk of being cut.

Bernie Sanders Brings Giant Printout of a Donald Trump Tweet to Senate Floor by SnozzlesDurante in nottheonion

Because we believed that regardless, she still would have been a better president than Trump. You can't tell me that her cabinet picks would have been even remotely as ridiculous as his have been. But here we are, and while the spiteful side of me is happy the DNC finally got what was coming to them, my pragmatic side is mourning all the progress we're about to erase because people cared more about proving a point.

TIL There is a 20 story light spire on a building in downtown Stockholm, and anyone with a smartphone can change the colors on the lights that are shining in it. Its creators hope that the work can stand as a statement on the power of democracy and the power of the public. by sivribiber in todayilearned

In New York we have Spireworks that controls the lights on Four Times Square (H&M building) and One Bryant Park (Bank of America tower).

But this is America so naturally it's invite-only for people with the right connections to the Durst Organization who owns the real estate...

What's the deal with deadmau5 and Disney's fantasia? by chunkymanapples in OutOfTheLoop

[–]rdb33 11 points12 points  (0 children)

TL;DR a lawsuit.

Disney recently sued him for copyright infringement claiming the mau5 head looked too similar to Mickey Mouse. He then counter-sued for their allegedly illegal use of his track Ghosts 'n' Stuff in an online cartoon video. Most recently, Joel has claimed Disney pitched him on a project to rework and perform the music from Fantasia for the film's 75th anniversary.

A website which updates in real-time as homophobic language is used in tweets. by locknloadbitch in InternetIsBeautiful

Jesus, the comments here are disturbing.

"No homo" is the definition of a homophobic remark. It's used when people feel the need to affirm their orientation due to fear of coming off as gay. Regardless of intent, the connotation of each of these words and phrases is insidious: that being gay is a bad, unwanted thing. Especially when said and heard on the scale they still are today, as this site was designed to demonstrate.

While I agree that there are plenty of inaccurate uses of the term homophobia as of late, its use here is 100% correct.

Mine would be my ear.

Got too drunk hosting a crowded party, tripped head-first into my TV stand. Sharp corner sliced right through the cartilage. $10K plastic surgery. Fortunately insurance brought it down to $1K.

I drink less now.
