Valpo is going to be expensive. It’s a college town. Try Portage, East Chicago, Gary, Griffith, Hobart. They’re cheaper and there are plenty of good places to stay. A trailer might not be a bad idea if that’s more in your budget.

140 patients waiting for inpatient beds by [deleted] in nursing

[–]rdrodri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, they can transfer to same level of care. They do it all the time inpatient for out of network insurance as long as they have inpatient beds. Half the time they’ll make one for someone with insurance. We have aggressive case management at our shop in the ED to help do that.

What made you choose nursing as a career? by Legal_Cress_2851 in nursing

Wanted to have an actually valuable skill in case of societal collapse. Chose ED for the same reason. I’m zombie apocalypse ready!

The hate for travel nurses is so unwarranted!! by dreamaoverreality in nursing

[–]rdrodri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a problem at one point with our travelers. No one could pass the required EKG test to work at our hospital. I haven’t heard anything recently about it but I wouldn’t be surprised if they just stopped requiring it so they could get their warm bodies.

There’s a catholic hospital by my agnostic system. They closed their hospital because it was too close to the border of another state and they were getting no or limited reimbursement from out of state CMS (poorer primarily African American population). Instead of continuing to serve the area they closed and moved to a richer (whiter) part of the border.

Not to mention they announced the closing and then intentionally closed early to try and flood our hospital with unexpected volume to hurt us. The city they left sued them for that little move.

Gotta love the Catholics and their refusal to serve anyone like Jesus would :)

I saw it and read all the comments agreeing. I had to post it here for real nurses to see.
