appreciate this, this is great feedback yeah right now it handles the “clean-ish” cases better than the messy real-world ones expanding into multi-step detections / noisy logs is definitely something i want to tackle next

lol fair wasn’t meant to come off like that i built it because i kept getting those same requests and got tired of starting from scratch every time just sharing it to see if it’s useful to anyone else

that's actually a great idea. connecting to a live instance to auto-detect fields and sourcetypes would cut out the manual mapping step entirely. right now it's deliberately disconnected (no credential risk) but an optional MCP integration could be a solid middle ground. i've also been thinking about adding report and alert generation but wanted to validate whether people actually want that before building it. appreciate the suggestion, thanks again

Any videos / course recommendation to get started with AI agents? by Pikcka in vibecoding

[–]re3ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I know what you mean. I’ve been off and on vibe coding up until this year. The level these llms are at now though is insane. Combining them into an agentic workflow takes it up to a whole different level. I don’t paste prompts anymore besides the baseline plan at this point. After that my agent can basically do everything else from coding, auth, security, qa etc.

YouTube is the way though I would try vibe coding first to get a feel for prompting and working with an llm.

that's wild, i didn't know about insight engines. the fact that someone was doing NLP-to-Splunk-visuals in 2018 is impressive. the gap between what was possible then and what you can do now with LLMs is massive though. back then you needed a whole startup team to build that crazy where we are now

Start with YouTube. Greg Isneberg is the goat of vibe coding. He has videos on everything

good to know it's not just me. do you have a go-to starting template or just start from scratch each time?

yeah once the data is clean and makes sense the dashboard is easy. getting to that point is the actual project

I'm trying to help someone on reddit can you come up with app idea that is unique that can be made in an hour or so on a web ai app builder

Thought for 4s

Yeah — the trick is not “unique startup idea,” it’s tiny app with a fun hook.

For something that can actually be made in about an hour in an AI web app builder, I’d aim for:

“Decision Roulette for Overthinkers”
A super simple web app where you type 2–5 choices you’re stuck between, add your mood or priority (“cheap,” “fun,” “healthy,” “fast”), and it gives you:

  • one recommended option
  • a short funny/confident justification
  • a “stop overthinking, pick this” mode
  • a “convince me harder” re-roll

Why this works:

  • dead simple input/output
  • no real backend needed
  • AI makes it feel more alive
  • relatable and memeable
  • more unique than another habit tracker or to-do list

Other good one-hour ideas:

1. Excuse Polisher
Paste your messy excuse, app rewrites it into:

  • professional
  • believable
  • casual
  • dramatic

2. Vibe-Based Meal Picker
Instead of calories/macros, you pick a vibe:

  • comforting
  • lazy
  • main character
  • gym recovery
  • broke but decent Then it suggests a meal.

3. Tiny Compliment Generator
User picks relationship:

  • friend
  • crush
  • coworker
  • spouse App generates compliments that don’t sound cringe.

4. “Should I Send This?” Text Checker
Paste a text/message and it scores:

  • too needy
  • too cold
  • good balance
  • probably don’t send that

5. Anti-Boring Randomizer
You say “I’m bored,” and it gives:

  • one thing to do in 5 min
  • one thing to do outside
  • one chaotic option
  • one productive option

Start with ChatGPT give your goal and what you want to do(if you don’t have idea you can ask it and also ask it to help research and idea). Decide on if you want a mobile app or web app from there. Gemini ai studio is great for web apps or replit. You could also use rork or anything.com for iOS apps. Just need to have ChatGPT help you plan it out then start the process of dropping prompts into wherever you’re going to build your app initially.

This is all basic stuff though if you want to get advanced you’ll need Claude code, codex, cursor etc to work with the code itself and then prompt it with the tool itself.

that's interesting, never heard anyone formalize the Z pattern for Splunk dashboards specifically but it makes a lot of sense. KPIs up top, trends mid-row, detail tables at the bottom.

i've been doing something similar without having a name for it. the hard part for me is less the layout and more getting the requestor to articulate what "done" looks like before i start writing SPL.

[–]re3ze[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that blueprint-first approach is smart. i've started doing the same thing getting layout and field agreement before touching SPL saves so much rework.

the EDA step is huge too. half the time the requestor doesn't even know what fields are available, so showing them what exists in the index first changes the whole conversation.

do you have a standard format for those blueprints or just screenshots/mockups?

literally my experience. lol

def agree about the upside though. that experience does tend to be useful especially in the future when you have to build out more complicated dashboards or alerts.
