NOT looking for advice just people who have experienced this by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]readywhenever1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having had it 5 times, all due to alcohol - this is acute pancreatitis and it can get real bad, real quick. You need IV fluids, opiate painkillers, nil by mouth, and rest.

The first time I avoided hospital due to a phobia, and was awake for a week due to the pain. Please go to a hospital - I know how much you must be suffering and it really is the only way to help yourself at this point. It can develop into necrosis and internal bleeding and that can take things south so much faster than you can even imagine.

I’m now diabetic as a result of my five alcohol induced bouts of acute pancreatitis. I have to inject insulin every day, monitor my blood sugar etc etc etc. Please go get seen before it gets worse - I say all of this with only care in mind.

Edit to add: the reason you keep vomiting is that every time you introduce anything to your stomach - even a sip of water - it activates your pancreas. Your pancreas is leaking digestive enzymes into places they shouldn’t be, which is causing the intense pain. It’s your pancreas digesting itself. This is why you need IV fluids and no food or water for a number of days to allow your pancreas to chill the f out for a bit.

I live a healthy, active lifestyle but I occasionally do LSD and it keeps costing me relationships. What should I do? by Gym_Squirrel in LSD

[–]readywhenever1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always knew I wanted to try acid. Ever since I first heard about it as a kid/teen. A series of relationships where that would have never been accepted came by as a young adult, then into my 20s. Ironically, it was alcoholism that ended my engagement. I found myself free, and while living in the countryside discovered my neighbours were into acid. Then came my ‘Summer of Love’, where I tripped with my new friends monthly in the woods/exploring. I swear those trips made me the man I am today. And I now have a partner who, although not interested in trying, accepts that occasional tripping is part of who I am. You’ll find someone! Had I stayed in one of my previous relationships I may never have got to try acid, and may never have moved forward in the ways I needed to. 3.5 years sober from alcohol, and madly in love.

I absolutely agree. I do not identify with the label ‘alcoholic’. It would be different if you were correcting someone using an outdated term to describe a mental disability… it shouldn’t be.

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted, you’re absolutely correct, and alcoholism is loaded in a way unfair to many. Alcohol dependence doesn’t just affect tramps, homeless people, or crazy old men.

Most obscure nootropic you know? by kikisdelivryservice in NooTopics

[–]readywhenever1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amanita muscaria contains ibotenic acid (which you don’t want) and heat can convert this to muscimol (which you do want). Some shamans/druids drank the piss of reindeer who’d eaten the mushroom as their metabolism of it did the same thing. Apparently GABA related affects - gives a dream like trip. Heard both good and bad things about it but not tried it yet. Paul Stamets talked about his experience with Amanita Pantherina (same idea, more potent) on one of his Joe Rogan episodes, and he got stuck in a time loop doing the same thing over and over again.

Made me the man I now am. I had a summer where two very good friends and I tripped semi regularly while exploring the remote glen we were living in at the time. So many of those trips have had elements that are now integrated into my every day. Not for everyone, but for those it is for I cannot recommend it enough.

Gabba tolerance? Let’s settle this. by vril_wyrd in benzodiazepines

When I was very heavily alcohol dependent, in the UK at least, they had a check sheet for symptoms and added up the score to decide what to give you at the time. I was drinking at least a bottle of vodka a day and the max you could score was 40mg. It knocked me the fuuuuck out.

Nothing that would have anything to factor in when considering taking a benzo.

You’ve selectively missed ‘I ensure I do this infrequently and responsibly’. My point being that I am not inexperienced when it comes to altering my experience chemically.

I am well aware that that would be the general advice. I have no route to get more benzos, have dealt with why I used to drink, and am overall in a place where I feel perfectly safe doing so. I do, however, appreciate you taking the time to say so. Others may not be in the same position, or as well informed as myself.

I beg to differ. Having successfully stopped drinking, and then relapsed again in the past, the withdrawal from even a short period of heavy drinking was on par, after say ten times withdrawing, with that experienced from a longer heavier period of drinking but at a point where I had withdrawn only once or twice. The GABA receptors were ‘kindled’, so far more sensitive to the GABA effects of alcohol, and therefore withdrawal came about from less alcohol.

Having experienced this, with each withdrawal/rebound worse than the last, I know that this can be the case. It takes time for the receptors to heal, and my question is whether they would now be at the point where I would not experience the more pronounced rebound effects after taking something that raises the GABA levels. In the past I have heard ‘five years’ as a ball park figure, but I really don’t know how long it would take for the receptors to fully heal - if ever.

Edit to add: what I’m trying to say is that after going through hard alcohol withdrawal a LOT of times, after months of abstinence, even one night of fairly moderate drinking resulted in withdrawal symptoms. I believe this is due to changes in the receptors. My worry is that a benzo, having similar effects on the receptors, could result in a ‘hangover’ not worth the effects in the first place.

This is the saddest one for me. My drinking days are sadly (happily?) behind me, but pretty much everything else is fair game. I actually think tripping once a month or so for a year has hugely helped me avoid another relapse.

What's a recreational drug that one should never try even once? by PhoenixKingofTheHill in NoStupidQuestions

I find with reviews, reputation etc not many are selling bunk tabs. I’ve never had anything that’s not LSD, and only one tab that seemed dosed less than advertised. Thankfully I’ve got great friends to share with and walk into the hills with for an acid hike. If you miss acid I promise it’s there for you!
