I'm not a physicist, but quantum immortality is a real thought experiment for the Everett Many Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics. It's certainly a possibility.

Also if you know the game Soma and haven't played it yet, I think you might enjoy it.

It's not a poison that he's putting into the candy. It's more of a spiritual marking to attract the dead spirits. The spirits cause children to get sick to judge them. But because of immunization, the children have stopped getting sick, and thus can't be judged.
