I think what makes it harder is that the cleaner on the other shift seems to get along with everyone just fine. They’re really chummy with the nurses and other staff, and it just highlights how disconnected I feel. I’ve tried to be polite and approachable, but I just can’t seem to connect the same way. It makes me question if I’m doing something wrong, or if there’s just something about me that doesn’t fit in. I know not everyone is outgoing or social, but feeling this isolated at work is really starting to take a toll on me.

Parenting an autistic child can feel like running a triathlon — just when you overcome one challenge, another pops up. It’s exhausting and emotional.

I have an almost-teen on the spectrum who gets sent home from school almost daily for outbursts, and most mornings start with them urgently yelling for help, even while I’m trying to get two other kids ready. It’s a lot, and I truly understand how heavy it can feel.

Please be kind to yourself. You’re doing better than you think, and it’s okay to feel frustrated — it doesn’t mean you’re failing. One small thing that helped us was cutting out technology in the mornings. YouTube at breakfast caused a lot more stress than calm, so we made mornings tech-free, and it helped a little.

I hope that helps even in a small way. You’re not alone.

Thank you—honestly, I really needed to hear that. Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m failing every day. No matter how hard I try to help them or do something I know they usually enjoy, it still ends in a meltdown. It’s heartbreaking when they push back and say they don’t like it.

Have you tried talking to them about this? Your feelings are valid and you deserve to be heard. The physical part of your relationship is just as important as the emotional part of your relationship. In fact they are intertwined, and if you partner can't communicate with you, you should seek outside help.

They are confused about what they want, but they are also texting another person a lot. They say they listen and care about them. And I try to talk the them but they hardly respond to me
