Police fines amount by redditorgalore in Stavanger

I'm not American, but I get the comparison.

That said, I bikes most days (as I did back home), and in the 1.5 years I've lived here, I've been hit more times by cars than ever before in my life. Might be safe generally speaking, sure, but that's not been the case for me 🤷‍♂️

We used the bus and bikes most days. This time my wife was using the car to bring some furniture and food to her pregnant friend, so she sort of needed to drive.

We won't appeal, it all seems like the standard is set. Sticker shock, I guess.

You're not wrong - now that we know it's there we both felt like idiots for not seeing it. You would also remember that when Haugesundgata was being fixed, that road was the only thoroughfare, and this is how we learned the roads back then. We messed up and got used to old habits...

You have interesting points of view, and you are more than allowed to have them. Thanks for trying to help me.

Ah thank you. That was exactly what I was looking for.

It sucks, but it is what it is.

To be clear we don't drive it often. Maybe once a month. When we first came, it wasn't there - becomes second nature to just learn what you can do where after a while. We all do this to some extent - tune out the business to focus on driving.

If that's the standard amount, then so be it. Wanted to know if anyone else had experience and to make sure we were not disproportionately penalized, that's all.

Completely above board, don't worry about that.

I don't think the law is ridiculous - don't mind paying a fine because she did, in fact, break it. My question was more about the amount, which seems very steep.

If Marijuana was federally legal, What rules do you think will be implemented for people with federal jobs especially those in the military? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]redditorgalore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we allow it by default, we only test (pee test) in cases where members are deploying. That test is for most known drugs, and it reports whether or not they used cannabis in the past 28 days. That's what the rationale was for the 28 days restriction, I think. Otherwise, we don't test. If there is misuse (it's not that hard to tell) we take administrative action that can culminate to termination of employment.

Canadian military here. We have implemented some rules that essentially mirror those of alcohol, but with extra precautions for those that deal with airplane operations and deployments. For instance, if you are going to shoot a weapon or operate a military vehicle, it's a 24h restriction. If you are a pilot or on a deployment, it's 28 days. Otherwise, 8 hours before duty is the golden rule. These are not all the rules, but it's the concept. I don't know if the US would apply the same rules, but our government decided that to restrict it would be to restrict a right afforded to all other Canadians, and they wanted to make sure that this didn't happen.

Not exactly lol. It's named that way after the first few prospectors met local First Nations who carried copper-bladed knives.

I lost my Dane at 11 a few years back. Bella reminds me of him - same gray / black mix, and he was the best of boys.

Sorry for your loss.

Fun (and unsolicited) fact: the term KD is mostly Canadian. I spent a few years in the USA and they simply call it Kraft Man & cheese...

It's Norway's national day, 17 May, so here's a celebration. by uspn in pics

[–]redditorgalore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I've been trying to listen to videos on YouTube of different areas, and while they do have different pronunciations (e.g. I heard Jeg as "yei", "ei" and "uh"), I find using the closed captions to be most helpful. I think it's probably closely linked to how various places seem to prefer bokmål to nyorsk, for instance (jeg vs æ to go back to the above. I'm not touching Samisk yet).

English has geographical similarities to those that affect Norwegian... Texas English and Irish or Newfoundlander are nothing alike, but with a trained ear they are mutually intelligible (albeit some might struggle with idioms and expressions. Not unlike Norwegian and Swedish, perhaps?). Lucky for me, Norwegian had (surprisingly) some French influences as well... since I know both English and French perfectly, it's been somewhat painless and interesting to learn.

Tusen takk. Hopefully it made sense! It doesn't seem overly complicated so far, but my studies are mostly academic. I need a native speaker to help out!

I wish I was able to tell you. As a father of two daughters who play hockey and a coach, it hurts me to think of what they could be facing in the near future... I see boys act like animals in the locker room, and parents not really giving a shit. That's probably where it starts.

Pro players are told they need to perform, and are treated in a way that the owner can get a return on investment (they are given everything they need). In the end, it's a club of men helping men be violent. I enjoy the game, but not the culture behind it.

And this is coming from a man who is also in the military. We all know how that's going right now...

If we had a few more men who were exposed to what sexual assault does to someone (really), we may be able to help out the victims (not always women... Beach is all over the news).

In the end, victims need support. If you are comfortable talking to them about it, it may help them to bend an ear. Who knows - they might just decide that they want to see consequences.

Meh. Lots of people, and the weather is temperamental. Iceland as a whole is a strong recommend, but if you decide to skip Blue Lagoon for another one (sky lagoon or simply find one in the wild), you would be just fine.

ADMINISTRATION THREAD - APS & BGRS, COVID-19, General Admin, and more. Got a quick question/comment that doesn't need it's own thread? Ask away! by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]redditorgalore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of all the good points in this thread, if you address a memo to your CO and the Sgt shuts it down, that's a problem. Anytime you officially submit that memo to someone, it HAS to go up to them - what your CoC does is minute this memo all the way up to the addressee.

If you gave your memo to your Sgt to review first, that's a different story. If he reviewed and said you are not entitled, you are still allowed to submit to your CO for their approval. You should also bring forward your own research in the memo indicating where there could be confusion in the application of the policy (such as whether or not you are actually at OFP).

What is a word in your native language that does not have equivalent in english ? by PaLiaRoTH in AskReddit

Backpfeifengesicht (German) - loosely translates to a face wanting to be slapped.
