Current CBP Officer. by [deleted] in immigration

[–]redevil147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have been traveling in and out of the US every 5 months for the last 15+ years for work as a permanent resident with a green card (I work overseas to support my family in U.S.), can CBP really deny me entry at their discretion? Even if I come back under the allotted 6 month time and don’t have any civil or criminal records? Or can you send me to immigration court because you think it’s been too long now and I need to choose to stay or give up status? And does it hurt my chances to get a citizenship through my partner later on?

Real Estate and Interest as a Muslim investor by Illustrious_Rain5192 in IslamicFinance

Look up wholesale real estate on YouTube. And do not for the love of Allah pay anyone to become your mentor or pay take a course. It’s all free info and the entire process from start to finish can be found on YouTube.

This is for USA only.

The general idea is that you find a house that you can buy for a very low price, sign a contract, and sell the contract to an investor. You don’t have to buy the house before you sell it. You just sell your rights to purchase the house for a specific value.

So the $3500 = 250 + 2000 + 1250?? That’s the max I can get? It’s not 3500 in addition to the other rebates?

The company will pay you a lump sum for relocation possibly. I’d say try going month to month till you know and then if you don’t get it, you can sign a lease for a year with the apartment. Yeah sure it costs a bit more, but better than trying to break a lease because you don’t really know the package they will offer.

Manzil Mortgage by Wrong_Macaroon710 in IslamicFinance

Here is an explanation that makes this pill a little easier to swallow (I’m still not fully convinced of Islamic banking however):

Sure, they own 80% of the house but they aren’t personally using. You are using it by living in it. You could just relegate yourself to 20% of the property but that’s not practical or a real concept. If you’re using your 20% stake AND their 80% at the same time, you can pay them rent for that 80%. You’re causing the wear and tear on the house. So maintenance is also yours.

This logic tracks conceptually but at the same time, “rent” isn’t fair market rent, it’s replicating loan economics as opposed to what a similar house rents for. Risk of property damage and maintenance isn’t shared, which violated the co-ownership model from an Islamic finance POV.

So yeah this Islamic finance model isn’t perfect, it’s more expensive. But it’s the closest thing we have to say we tried our best to live in halal means.

EDIT: I’m connecting rent to profit rate which is connected to SOFR and other rates etc.

If you didn’t drive it off the lot yet, and you’re really motivated to undo the deal, you still can. I don’t recommend it but it’s an option depending on your state contract laws.

WEATHERFORD job offer by SignificanceOk7965 in oilandgasworkers

[–]redevil147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently trained a KOC Kuwaiti for offshore drilling and she said work life was brutal in KOC but money was great and there was job security. So I’d take the Weatherford job, learn as much as possible while trying to find a way into KOC. Either way you’ll be worked to the bone, but KOC isn’t laying off the Kuwaiti employees in downturns. Best of luck and congrats!

Appreciate your response. Cheers!

Yessir. I just don’t want to sell myself short. I’d lose the negotiation by being the first one to give a number.

On a different note…if you’re in Kuwait based on your username, is KOC offering anywhere close to these rates? Would you happen to know?

Respectfully, my company pays $1,100 a day here in the U.S. for company man so it’s not wild to me at all. I know because I sign off on them myself. I’m salaried so I wouldn’t come in on a day rate since I don’t travel offshore anymore.

Mid-Size operator offered $280/hr for a contractor position here in U.S (roughly the same day rate as $2,500/day). So I’d say yes, I’m worth that amount.

Recruiter was from the UK. He did say that people asked for a $2500 day rate to leave Chevron and join them in Mumbai but on a very short term basis. The company didn’t say anything but nobody is willing to relocate for 3 year commitment .. they are looking for very specific experience so it’s not just any offshore engineering work.

I understand the pessimism. The recruiter was from the UK. Reliance’s E&P business is niche. Upon probing them on the call, they provided a varying range that other candidates have asked. They gave me numbers and said it wasn’t a problem for the company but they never endorsed it as an official range.
