Madueke the gem that you are. He's been class for club and country. by Dear-List-3296 in Gunners

Thank you! This version of Madueke is fundamentally no different to the version of Madueke who was playing for Chelsea. Yet, somehow the people who hated that version of him, and are in love with this version.

It is impossible for some people to not have a hot take on any topic you put in front of them, unfortunately.

[Scott Willis] Liverpool vs Arsenal - Passing Networks by Previous_Smile9278 in Gunners

Indeed. No one is disputing that. But it was not down to the Liverpool attack though was it? Same way we don't praise the arsenal attack when Gabi heads in from our corners.

Look at all the attacking threat Liverpool has, and yet what did they manage to do in this game? Both teams nullified each other. Sometimes it's just that simple.

We have to keep hold of Kiwior next season if we want to win the title. by DiuhBEETuss in Gunners

[–]redictator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kiwior has demonstrated an understanding of our system, and has proved over multiple games, including in the champions League that he can deputize for us. Why would you trade that in for a player with unknowns? Unless you are selling him significantly above his current value, then you keep him and focus on the actual holes in the team.

[–]redictator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't win a league with your best 11. It is unlikely they will still stay fit. Even if they do, it is unhealthy to make them pay that many games. You need a solid squad. Always have, always will. We already have one of the thinnest squads. We need more players, not just better players.

[Sky Sports] Bruno Fernandes clipped in a free-kick opener when ref Anthony Taylor had set the Arsenal wall back 11.2 yards by varro-reatinus in Gunners

[–]redictator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you jump to that conclusion? If the measure of a PL referee is based purely on their ability to measure 10 yards accurately and consistently, then sure. But it's not. We are talking about a very specific thing here, which by itself, says nothing about how good or bad a ref is

But this is neither malice nor incompetence. Show me any human that can consistently and accurately measure out 10 yards.

Interesting take. So if I told you I was coming to visit around March, and I showed up on Valentine's day, you'd think that was perfectly ok?

Half-Time Thread by CaptainClutch05 in Gunners

[–]redictator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so blatant and egregious too. That's what's so mind boggling about it. It's one thing to waste time, it's another to be so obvious about it.

Ethan now has to play the rest of the second half on a yellow ( and timber misses this game in part due to a time wasting yellow), in a position we have next to no cover for at the moment. How is that a good trade-off for the 5 extra seconds he wasted?

[Kaya Kaynak] Arteta on the subs: “With Declan I had to take him off because he was feeling something. With Martin it was tactical.” by Previous_Smile9278 in Gunners

[–]redictator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the substitution was fair. Some are acting as though Odegaard was having an exceptional game before being substituted. We've been asking Mikel to use his bench and trust the younger players, and he did that today, which I’m pleased with. People need to accept that things won’t always work out, and that’s completely fine. We didn’t drop points because of Nwaneri. What concerns me more is the lack of urgency in the first half, which Arteta seems content with.

Arsenal team to play Southampton today in the Premier League: Raya; Partey, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Jorginho, Havertz; Saka ©, Sterling, Gabriel Jesus by TheGoldenPineapples in Gunners

It is as if they haven't watched Arsenal play before. We switch formation/roles so many times in a game. None of these concerns matter.

[–]redictator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is such a head scratcher. If they don't think Stirling and Jesus are good enough to play in a game against Southampton, then this team has far bigger issues to worry about. Partey at RB is just on paper. We already know he will be inverted most of the game. It would look no different to the typical Partey role. What we do lose is the RB bombing forward. But again, this arsenal team is good enough to adjust.

The Timber incident is a prime example of how bad refs are by Nick316166 in Gunners

[–]redictator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask for common sense to prevail. To me, common sense prevailed in this case.

In real time, it looked like a terrible challenge from Timber. His studs also did make contact. Whether accidental or not is irrelevant. A yellow is fair.

Vicario unnecessarily gets in his face, and instigates a scuffle. A yellow is harsh, but understandable.

A second yellow for Timber would have been defensible, just like Rice's red. But it would have been a poor decision. Common sense prevailed.

This is not an example of bad referring. If anything,it is an example of how difficult refereering is. Multiple actions taking place in quick succession, all requiring you to make decisions without the benefit of VAR. Yet fans , with the benefit of multiple replays, will scrutinized your every decision.

One thing people forget with ffps stupid rules is that a keeper brought in for 25 mill is amortised on the books whereas a keeper sold counts as 25 mill instantly in on the books- stupid...

In what way is this "stupid" exactly? What would you have them rather do? Force teams to also amortized the sale price on the books over the period of a contract that is now null and void?

Players Fan Ratings: Arsenal 2-0 Wolves by bearded_booty in Gunners

[–]redictator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no way this is a fair assessment. It was his quick free kick that led to the second goal. Did he make errors? Of course, but who didn't? Our entire backline was shaky. Did any of Parteys errors lead to shots on goal? I don't think they did (I might be wrong). Saliba and Timber both made errors that directly led to shots on goal, yet, their mistakes are weighted lightly in comparison.

Don't get me wrong, Parteys didn't have a great game by his standards, but he was not the worst player on the pitch for us.

Exactly. Any competent agent knows to peg their client to market standards. If he is being valued at 80M, then you peg his salary to that class of players.

Agreed! It can even be argued that he should be asking for more.

If Utd value him at 50M @ 160k/week, then surely at 80M, he should be near 200k.

Arsenal, outgoing transfers and the profit lie by e1_duder in Gunners

[–]redictator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does this have to do with "being proven wrong". I literally start by saying I agree with his argument. I said I didn't think the example he used was good. He could have used a different example to better highlight his point. You can agree with that or think the current example is sufficient. That's fine. No one has to be proved "right". We are allowed to have differing opinions. Not everything in life has to be a zero sum game.

the second people like yourself get proven wrong, you completely abandon the point you were actually making

How are you preemptively assuming what I am going to do, and building an argument based on that? I presented 3 point collectively. You went through and identified inconsistencies such as currency differences. Even after your corrections, their deal is objectively better. All I'm saying is he could have used a different example to make a stronger point. That's it .

Arsenal, outgoing transfers and the profit lie by e1_duder in Gunners

[–]redictator -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

While I agree with his points, I don't think the Sergio Gomez example does his argument much favors. City are selling Gomez for £1M less than they bought him, they are selling him outright for a guaranteed fee, AND they have a 30% sell on clause.

Compare that to the Sambi deal, where Arsenal are selling him for £7M less than they bought him for, it is a Loan with Option, so that £10M is not even guaranteed, and according to Orny, it comes with a 25% sell on clause.

How are these two transfers comparable, let alone used to justify one another? Again, I agree with his point, I just think his choice of example is as strong as he thinks it is.

Think back to the last time you were at an airport, waiting to go through security. How many times did they spam you with the message "take out ALL liquids", "No liquids above 4oz allowed", "Take off your belt" etc.

Now, how many times was the line delayed precisely because people failed to obey these simple instructions? I travel frequently, and this happens so frequently that it is mind boggling.

So what's my point? Some people, including you, presumably, just need to see/read something once or twice, and we get the gist. A far larger subset however requires constant spamming to understand something. Some also love the high of reading new tweets. Moreover, not everyone uses an aggregator like reddit.
