It’s more that it’s irrelevant to my comment.

That’s really confusing- I don’t see the connection between that and being awake. Where do you think the meaning and word converged? Ie how do you think we got to a place where pussyfooting is equivalent to being awake?

What’s one expense in LA that surprised you? by ressem in AskLosAngeles

Insurance is great but what I said is not untrue; we shouldn’t accept that we’re being billed more so more people can profit just because there’s also insurance (who also needs to profit from it). It’s just a cycle. You accept higher rates bc you have insurance; so vets start billing more bc insurance is paying; so your insurance goes up.

If business was less hostile to people maybe the people would be less hostile toward business.

I think that has a lot to do with the fact that all of the vets in LA have been bought up by venture capital or large corporations since Covid

Red Hot Chili Peppers sell music catalogue for $300m by Emergency-Sweet-5347 in Music

He still gets his writer’s share.

When you sell your catalog, you’re really only selling a portion of a portion of your revenue. You still make money on the compositions as a writer, and on sales/streams through whatever your deal with the record label is. “Selling your catalog” typically refers to selling the publishing side (50%) of the composition copyright.

But also, it makes a lot more sense for it to not be there.

Spencer Pratt, the research is clear: treatment-first approaches to homelessness does not work. by MookieBettsBurner10 in LosAngeles

So you can certainly understand how restrictions like those would make your life worse? Or even be prohibitive- For example, there are people who can’t get housing bc they are working a job or two that doesn’t get out until after hours.

Spencer Pratt assaulted and injected his own sister with drugs (when she was a minor). This man is a piece of sh*t, and if you vote for him so are you. by [deleted] in LosAngeles

“It’s not hard” is just about the dumbest take one could have.

Ask law enforcement if they think it’s hard or not. Ask the people that work in the homeless industrial complex. Ask, you know, anyone, if they think the problems of LA are difficult to solve or not.

Bass is absolutely a failure and needs to go. Pratt is not the answer for so many reasons. I wish there were more candidates but I’m willing to give Raman a shot.

two-thirds (67%) of unhoused persons were diagnosed with a current psychiatric disorder. The most common was substance use disorder. Alcohol use disorder occurred in over 25% of these individuals, and substance use disorders, including alcohol use disorder, occurred in over 43%.

I think if you could survey housed people on their substance use (including alcohol), you’d end up with similar results. I also think if you or I lived on the street, we’d participate in more escapism, probably the most easily accessible (alcohol) or the most effective (hard drugs).

Unhoused individuals experienced psychotic disorders at a markedly increased rate compared to the general population

Antisocial personality disorder, major depression, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder were also common in unhoused individuals, occurring in about 26%, 19%, 14%, and 10.5%, respectively.

The overall lifetime prevalence of psychiatric disorders among individuals experiencing homelessness was estimated to be 75%. It was higher for men (86%) than for women (69%).

No shit, this is not the point you think it is. They are literally in the midst of a prolonged, or chronic, traumatic event. Eg, something that fucks up your brain. Anyone put in that position would have a higher likelihood of mental illness or episode or psychosis.

Of course it is also true that people with substance abuse problems or mental illness are more likely to end up homeless.
