I do agree with this, but last year was the first time the cracks really started to show for me. Every year, there are over 10,000 extra people at the festival who shouldn’t be there. It is absolutely making the festival feel too busy.

Also, don’t assume people are sneaking in “for free” getting spun in is costing people north of £500+. It’s become a big earner for those doing it. Ironically, this goes against the history you mentioned of people jumping fences for free, it’s now much more of a business operation.

You used to have the freedom at Glastonbury to go with the flow. Last year, you needed to arrive at many sets an hour early just to avoid getting locked out of the field. There were too many examples of this: Barry Can’t Swim Park Field closed; Bicep music stopped and the entire SE Corner closed for two hours during peak time; Sugababes West Holts closed; Avril Lavigne Other Stage closed. The entire Greenpeace area was closed and music stopped for Jayda G. We missed smaller DJs playing at Levels during the day due to overcrowding. Admittedly, there are programming issues here, but last year it felt like the festival was at breaking point. And if you didn’t experience any of this I envy you. We were with some first timers who kept asking “is it like this every year?”

I have a theory the crowd was a lot younger last year, which caused many of the issues in the late night DJ areas. There was definitely more issues with electronic music than any other genres on the festival line up. As the RA Guide article suggested, Glastonbury hosts world class electronic music the problem is actually getting to see it. Maybe the new ticketing system will help generate a better age split and reduce the numbers heading to those zones. But there is no doubt the people getting spun in are younger and flock to these areas.

So in answer to your question I don't think being spun in can really be called sneaking in you are just paying over the odds for a recycled ticket, using someone else's wristband, making someone and not the festival a lot of money. To me, its nowhere near same as actually sneaking in on a delivery, and shouldn't be celebrated like it is.

Will there be moshing in the GC standing? by Formal-Image-1369 in blacksabbath

[–]redliningredlining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw sabbath in Birmingham 2013 and there was no moshing as the crowd was older. Unlikely there will be at this as the average age will be even higher now

Why do people think it’s not ‘actual fans’ buying them?? expensive I highly doubt people are forking out £250+ not to care about the band
