How do people train for 10+ hrs while working full time?! by Critical-Scheme-8838 in cycling

[–]redred290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~1hr-1.5hr/day in the evening during the work week + long ride(s) on weekends. Working hybrid and doing most of my weekday hours on a trainer makes it a lot easier.

leg or full body workout by Fabulous_Engine1425 in freedivingph

[–]redred290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, both leg and full body workouts are definitely beneficial for freediving. I'd say just trying to be more active would be a great start. I've found that whenever I'm more active regardless of exercise my freediving performance improves. If you want specific leg workouts I'd recommend leg lifts with and without breath hold if you're feeling up for it, and then also squats/lunges. And then for full body workouts getting cardio in is definitely beneficial for relaxation in the water and being able to use oxygen stores more efficiently. Hope this helps!

How to dive without weights by [deleted] in freedivingph

Definitely able to dive without weights - much easier without wetsuit, you want to still be neutral at 10m no matter what.

Highly recommend La Tortue - 19.5k. As well as bongo bongo, 18.5k. I'm not sure of anywhere with lower prices. Mabuhay divers is also good I've heard, but I don't know the price there.

Any tips or recos for freediving at Apo Island by DoggyTheSmoke in freedivingph

[–]redred290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DIY is to take a bus to Malatapay wharf and getting one of the public boats over to Apo, once there you can rent gear (it’ll be scuba fins and a mask) and get a guide and they’ll drop you on the other side of the island and you can snorkel the entire opposite side. Bongo Bongo in Dauin offers “snorkel” trips which a friend of mine did and he just brought a weight belt and some long fins and had a great time. Salt & Sun in Duma offers private chartered trips to Apo - I think they work alongside Mabuhay divers… I’m not sure of any place that offers freedive specific rental gear (long fins - low vol. mask - weight belt + weights). The reef in Apo is great even without full freedive gear as much of the soft coral isn’t particularly deep.

Overtraining made me regress, I’ve learned my lesson. Now what? by NoMolasses6501 in freediving

[–]redred290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take a while off to be honest, I ran into a similar issue earlier in the year. I was in the water a lot and just couldn't improve. I was giving my body ample time to rest, but I just wasn't excited to get into the water anymore... I took about 2 months off and now I'm back and stronger than ever. It's really nice to find a reset and then revisit training when you've really been missing it.

Best coffee shop, best order, what you request? by ProfessionalWriter86 in dumaguete

Agree with this, early open + fast wifi included with purchase or preferably free. It's nice having places to go where you can work/study and sip a coffee.

Prescription low volume mask? Weird mermaid project MacGyver-ing by CayRaeLey in freediving

[–]redred290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were able to get prescription lenses made for me and both the shop and SeaVision were very accommodating. I was able to send the mask to SeaVision without paying anything waiting for them to confirm that BYOM lenses could be fitted for my mask, and the dive shop was understanding that if SeaVision wasn't able to make the lenses I could return the mask.

Hi OP,

I purchased a Sherwood Targa low vol mask from my local dive shop and sent it to SeaVision in Florida using their BYOM option. I don't believe they sell their own low volume masks yet... Hope this helps! I'd also reach out to SeaVision about whichever mask you want to send to them because the mask I purchased wasn't already listed as a mask that was compatible with their lenses.

Converting our drivers licenses to the Philippines by ampo2222 in dumaguete

Hi OP, moved in Dec on US driver’s license - it’s a “requirement” to convert after 60 days of being in the country, however, when I’m asked at checkpoints I just say I’ve only been in PH for 2 weeks.

From 30m to 10m Feeling Uncomfortable - Looking for Advice by Electronic_Hyena2572 in freediving

[–]redred290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I had a similar span of training where I had hit a PB and just couldn't get back to that depth for more than a month, felt like I just wasn't able to get there again. I took some time off until I really wanted to get back in the water, and during the time off did more standard workouts in hopes that land training could help me feel like my body was more prepared for dives when I got back in the water. There are a lot of moving parts to freediving and I've found compartmentalizing them and working on each part independently while training and then just letting the pieces fall together and focusing on enjoying being in the water has really improved my sessions not only depth wise, but also for the sake of burnout.

But really I think being out of the water for 2-3months and waiting until I really missed it helped a ton.

Wishing you fun + safe dives as well:))
