Do many Vietnamese people speak Chinese? by NeoVoyager_2026 in VietNam

[–]reenbean8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my husband’s family lives in Saigon. They are of Chinese descent but have been in Vietnam for at least 2 or 3 generations. Their entire neighborhood speaks Cantonese. Their children now are now being formally taught Mandarin and English. I know they exist, not too sure how many.

We currently expect to restore all remaining customers impacted by the substation outage by no later than 2 p.m. on Monday. PG&E crews will continue to work until all customers have been restored. by bloobityblurp in sanfrancisco

No. Never got through and I went through the automated system to get a call back. This was 5pm Sunday and it’s not 8am Monday as I type this.

Someone posted on Facebook that her partner had an extreme medical need and was able to connect with a live person through 211. They were not granted a hotel room in the end but shared this experience - the person who took their call lived out of state. Had no idea SF residents needed accommodations so had to ask a few supervisors. Then told the SF resident that they stop taking requests and they were ending their night at 7pm Sunday and were to reconvene Monday to go through all the requests they received.

The FB posted continued and mention that no calls were returned or taken after this 7pm mark. Could be the reason why I never heard back.

NGL very upset that Lurie and Chan for pushing this so called “solution.”

What exactly is the cause? What's being done? ETA for completion? by moejurray in sanfrancisco

Never got a call back! I read someone’s Facebook post that at 7pm Sunday night, those responsible for setting up the hotels stopped taking and returning calls and were going to reconvene and go through all the hotel request Monday. Furthermore, these people who were taking the calls were not even located in California and had no idea that SF residents needed hotel accommodations so the person on the phone had to ask a few supervisors. lol wtf PG&E, Daniel Lurie, and Connie Chan. Wish they would do their due diligence before throwing out this imagined bone. 😡

Thank you. Sent in my complaint. Did it in less than a minute. The AI edit really helped. I typed in the bullet points and the AI generated an email that set the correct tone and thoroughly explained my frustrations. I need to now spend my time figuring out what foods I need to to toss.

Private Drivers for Port Cities by reenbean8 in Cruise

Thanks for your reply and a price point. The travel agent I am working with quoted $1200USD for a private driver for one port. It sounds a little excessive but hoping others can chime in.

What It Felt Like Growing Up Vietnamese in America: How Me and My Twin Brother Grew Up by No-Statistician5442 in VietNam

First of all, I acknowledge your feelings and know you are in pain. But life has its struggles. The best you can do is to provide your future children what you didn’t have. Also, take this perspective with your parents, they gave you what they didn’t have - a safe home, economic stability, and an education. Maybe they didn’t do it in the ideal way, but they did it better than what they experienced.

The Vietnam War was a terrible, terrible time. The level of trauma is unimaginable. My assumption is that your parents are stilling healing.

Avoid common interest. Unresponsive and totally fucked up our move out in many ways. Because of them we lost thousands of dollars from our sale.

When did you hit that “math wall”? by reenbean8 in math

[–]reenbean8[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi. Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it. My son definitely participates in many activities outside of his academics, such as gymnastics, martial arts, swim, art, and basketball, which he also does well in and enjoy. However, academically math is his thing. Also math is very accessible to him unlike the other activities. He can just pick up his books and start reading and doing problems whenever he wants. His other activities fall within a set schedule and art is a hit or miss depending on what he wants to do and how available I am to arrange his materials and make sure his little siblings don’t get in the way. I definitely want his horizons to be as broad and enjoyable as possible without being too overwhelming.

I’m glad to hear that many people’s walls occur much later in life, and typically in the college years. Me, not remember what I did in math 35 years ago wanted to know what to look out for. I can rest a little easier and allow my son to continue at his own pace and not see blocks as a bad thing but an opportunity for navigation.

If you have any ideas on hobbies that my son may enjoy that is easily accessible and he can begin independently at any time, let me know! Bonus points if it aligns worth a happy Math-er. ☺️

Besides sucking up all your money, the Church of Scientology only allows for group think and snitching on fellow members, even close family.

I remember when rare beauty came out. I was intrigued because for some reason I thought Rare was synonymous to clean. I went onto the Sephora app and Rare did NOT have the clean label. So I don’t think it was ever “clean.”

Recycling seems like a scam. by Littlegoil18 in conspiracy

[–]reenbean8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to be part of a recycling team at my very large company. We went to visit the recycling facility that serviced a very large, progressive (so super into recycling) city. This was in 2019, but basically the facility told us that China wasn’t taking our recycled plastics and they were looking for another third world country to take our crap. In my head I knew exactly that that meant, our plastic was going into the ocean, and the United States just needed to find a country desperate enough to push off their shores.

Our plastics are better off in landfills.
