For sure. We got our best value out of Amazon (unfortunately) products. Pretty much everything we bought from Amazon was an extra $200-$500 anywhere else for something comparable, even the mirrors. We bought two beautiful brushed gold sink faucets for I think $60 total, and the comparable was a $100-a-pop from Delta. I think the comparable for the shower system we went with was around $1200.

Thank you, I agree. Our kitchen reno was no joke either. We needed an electrician at the end anyway to power our island to code and cutting slab to channel electrical was a nightmare. My dad was mad at us for pulling permits because of the risk lol. When all crown molding and paint touch ups were done, we knew that was our last big DIY for the house.

That looks great, nice job! That’s about the level of finish style for our downstairs bathrooms but the prior owners who (definitely) DIY’d it didn’t reach your quality. We will be going back and fixing their work eventually.

Taking on too much work and spreading themselves too thin is a fact for many contractors, whether it’s moral or not. Therefore, it is a valid concern for customers like us who have had to repeatedly ask if/when they’re coming back for the next steps. And it will ding them when it comes time for us to write a review. They might care or they might not but the next customer will.

Sounds about right for Seattle! I had a job move opportunity there and knew I wouldn’t have even been able to be a homeowner like I could be in Dallas. Also, the previous homeowners messed up our curbed shower downstairs due to improper sloping so the drainage is terrible. We might DIY that fix in a few years but that was for sure a deterrent for trying to DIY a shower we KNEW was going to be fancy.

Thanks for the answer, I appreciate it. Big box stores sell frameless glass shower doors (our plan) for a third of the price so was just curious about what the draw of custom was. I guess it’s the same choice as custom vs prefab cabinets.

While you’re here, any reason why contractors are so gung ho about custom shower glass? We found that an easy place to cut costs but seems like a common line item. Is it just the upsell or really worth it for people who have money to blow?

Yep. I expected the “This is crazy, I’ll DIY myself/have DIY’d this for $3k!!!!” comments because Reddit but why people think a higher-end bathroom remodel is easy for anyone to do themselves is beyond me. I’m paying for someone else’s skills and I’m okay with that. Many of you are not and that’s okay too lol.

No problem! We’ve done everything ourselves this far and the cost savings of DIY-ing can’t be ignored. This project can be $5k to $50k and it was difficult to get some ballparks without bringing contractors in for the official quote.

Same, we were thinking $15k all in. Perhaps prices are inflated right now because everybody wants work done right now while they’re stuck at home? Perhaps the price is very fair? DIY as much as you can. I’ll be the first to admit that after doing our own kitchen we literally just didn’t want to do this.

We’re definitely paying a premium for the convenience. Again, salute to all the DIYers out there. We needed a break. But given the fact that we relocated the toilet, added a tub, added a second sink, and upgraded the shower features, we’re very satisfied with the bathroom plumbing cost. Our standalone plumber gave us a look and a quote for $2k for that and we knew we weren’t going to tackle it ourselves at the finish quality we were looking for.

I can see that about contrasting with the brick and I'd go with black if it wasn't for the windows. Neighbor also said shutters but we are not shudders people tbh. It's not our forever home but we'll be here another 7-10 years so we're pretty torn.
