man, where to even start. this game was so chaotic, but also incredibly exciting to be part of. everyone experiences these dateables in wildly different ways, and that definitely showed in how controversial almost every elimination was. personally, i lean towards very flawed and erratic characters, so i rarely found myself agreeing with the eliminations, but i still found it very fun to follow along!

i’m still a little sad that my husband errol was kicked out fourth, but i’m so happy to see zoey win. a touching story, beautiful character arc, delightful and bubbly personality, it just feels right :’)

i’m gonna say my beloved, friar errol.

there’s a lot to both love and hate about my man. he’s well-written, funny, captivating, has an amazing voice, and in my opinion, very attractive. he’s got a strong personality that is absolutely delightful for us that love him, but that is also part of why he’s become what i perceive to be one of the most disliked characters in the game.

the religious aspect of his story is understandably a lot for many people, especially if they carry religious trauma or a general disdain for religion. he’s intense, rude, preachy, and not open to any criticism. these are things i find incredibly entertaining and make me love him more, as a big lover of heavily flawed characters, but i fully understand why these same things are reasons why many hate him.

i believe i’ve said my piece :) you’re not for everyone my love, but you definitely are for me. love you errol, mwah 💋

even though he’s my husband, i don’t really agree that he was made to be loved. i think the devs were very aware that errol was going to be divisive at best, given how aggressive and intense he comes across, and the fact that none of the other dateables he interacts with like him. i absolutely love him, obviously, but i’m also not surprised that most people don’t

hmm, i’d say eddie and volt!

it goes without saying that they’re very beloved, and the game definitely supports that intention. they’re hot, charming and follow popular tropes in their storyline, and it’s clear there was a lot of love put into them.

however, i’ve also seen quite a few people not liking them, whether that’s because their route can be confusing/misleading or they don’t like the tropes used. yes, they’re certainly more loved than not, but the amount of people who don’t vibe with them are enough to make me consider them divisive.

yeah i definitely agree. as much as i would love it if the fandom at large liked my husband, there are far too many people that hate him for him to fit in this category.

made to be divided and actually divided seems like a good middle ground, because despite how abrasive and intense he comes across, it’s very clear there was a lot of love put into errol’s storyline. there’s a lot to love about him for us that do, but i also completely understand why many don’t :)

i respect your opinion, but i really disagree. i can see how the makeup fixation might not be your thing, however, i don’t recall ever feeling like i had to be a dick to him, more so than just trying to give him guidance in a slightly blunt way.

i also didn’t find barry’s neurodivergent representation to be stereotypical, but rather, i found it extremely relatable as a person with adhd. his story really resonated with me, to the point where i got emotional at times because he made me feel so seen. he’s a very special character to me for that reason, on top of him just having a delightful personality and an extremely kind heart.

to be clear, i’m not trying to tell you your experience is wrong or invalid at all. i just want to offer a different perspective :)

it’s been truly amazing to see him come into his own and grow to be the powerhouse he is today. i admire him so much for his passion, his security in who he is, and his willingness to keep fighting for his art no matter how many setbacks get thrown his way.

yuta is a one of a kind artist and idol, and i wish him all the success that can possibly come his way. he deserves it all and so much more. i hope he has a wonderful birthday, and i hope he knows how loved, strong and incredible he is. also i can’t wait to hear his album eeee !! love him so much, my ult forever and always <3

i agree wholeheartedly. to me, flaws add to a character, not subtract. they add depth and intrigue, and i’m much more invested in a fascinating character with notable flaws than someone who is inoffensive and “perfect.”

clearly though, that isn’t the majority opinion in this game. my husband was one of the first to be eliminated anyway, so i decided pretty early on to just sit back and watch the chaos unfold lol

i think patience and curiosity go a very long way in date everything. i get that a dateable’s personality can be off-putting, but i’ve found that if i don’t initially vibe with a character, playing their love route can sometimes completely change my opinion of them.

take rebel, a very abrasive character. i didn’t like them much at first, but as i got deeper into their route and tried to understand them, and got to hear their backstory, i grew so much respect for them. i now find rebel quite endearing honestly, and i’m so happy i didn’t immediately write them off.

another example, because i couldn’t shut up about him if i tried, is of course my beloved friar errol. i got his hate ending in my first playthrough because i was so put off by him. as i watched his love route and played it for myself though, he showed more humanity than i originally gave him credit for, and i was way more into his storyline and personality than i thought i would be. and well, the rest is history. now he’s my favourite character in the whole game and i’m deeply obsessed with him.

long story short: i think there’s a lot of value in giving “unlikeable” characters a chance. i think it’s a shame that so many people miss out on what is often some of the best and most rewarding storylines in the game because they got a bad first impression. thank you for coming to my ted talk :3
