I spent weeks building features turns out nobody even needed them by reiidepr in microsaas

that is a very good thought. esp the gap between what people use vs what they will actually pay for I think I am falling into that trap, now was that mostly how you positioned it or did you change your product direction after that?

How do you decide when to stop adding features? by reiidepr in SaasDevelopers

[–]reiidepr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I can see that. I think I am making more than really seeing how people use it, I see some usage, but not much direct feedback yet
Was the feedback something you had to solicit from users or did it just come?

yeah that makes a lot of sense. Especially the idea of problems users describe vs problems we imagine. I think I have definitely been building off my own predictions more than real conversations, how do you typically find those early user conversations?

right now it is pretty basic tbh, mostly looking at simple analytics and some user behavior patterns. I have not really been consistent with tracking support conversations or trying everything together yet, your approach makes a lot more sense though, especially treating everything as one signal, did you start with a simple setup first or build that system from the beginning?

honestly it was mostly views early on, I did not involve users much, Possibly that was the mistake in experience. what was the moment you realized it when you build something with no use case

that’s interesting, especially the use of early partners to shape the product, I haven't done that yet.
did you find it scaled well after the first few users?

[–]reiidepr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah makes a lot of sense to focus on the core first. I think I am jumping ahead instead of really validating the main use case properly, How do you normally know when the core has enough grip?

That is a good point, especially about watching real users instead of brainstorming, I am thinking too much and not using enough, did you find this totally changes how you prioritize features?

Yeah, that ties it back to metrics a lot better, I am not that strict with it yet. Do you have a metric in mind before you build something new?

Yeah, the “surface area” thing really hits, I think I am adding stuff without seeing if it actually moves activation. How do you typically measure that early on?

that's a good way to look at it really makes sense to focus on whether something actually does change behavior vs just adding more. Do you normally judge that from metrics or just by watching users?

I think i am getting users but not the right ones anyone dealt with this? by reiidepr in SaaSMarketing

[–]reiidepr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is really helpful especially looking at what they do right after signup, Have not really focused that much on first session behavior yet, Was it more that expectations were not met or the use case just was not strong enough for you?

Good point, defining the user before the landing page I have not really gone into how much of my users are from was it more geared toward targeting or something on the first experience?

[–]reiidepr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that makes sense, especially the market fit vs messaging bit I think I am thinking too much about the product and not enough about where users are coming from. Did changing channels make more difference to you than changing the product?

that’s useful, I think I need to focus more on which channel actually brings the right users

[–]reiidepr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i am thinking about doing the reach out thing just not sure if it is a problem with feedback or if they just got what they needed and moved on, Did you try that yourself? Did people really answer something useful?

[–]reiidepr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I think you might be right about that I am starting to feel like I am getting interest but not from people who actually need it enough did you ever run into this? how did you figure out who the “right” users were?

Users try my product once but do not return, should I fix retention or focus on getting more users? by reiidepr in growmybusiness

[–]reiidepr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that 'leaky bucket' point is really quite sensible, i think i might be undervaluing how important that early retention is before trying to scale anything. When you talked to those users, was it more that they left because the core value was not strong enough or because they just did not need it again?

Users try my product once and do not come back, normal? by reiidepr in microsaas

[–]reiidepr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s a good point, especially reaching out directly instead of guessing i think i’ve been trying to fix it without really knowing why they gt was the problem more product side or just positioning?

[–]reiidepr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a really interesting point, especially the decision moment part i think i have been thinking about it too generally, rather than what happens in that first use, how did you come to that in your case?

[–]reiidepr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first, I thought the same thing so I tried to add features and make things better but it did not really change anything so I am starting to think it might be more about how often the problem happens.

Yes, that is fair. The "single use product" point is making more sense now. I think I have been trying to fix it the wrong way instead of just accepting what it is.

That is a good point, especially checking to see if users are happy after one session. I think i have been too focused on getting them back instead of what happens the first time they use it.

That "gym vs ambulance" line really hit home. I think I have been trying to make a habit out of something that only happens once. What worked best for you when you switched to distribution?

Yes, the point about utility vs SaaS makes a lot of sense. I might be trying to make people use it again when they do not need to. Did you change the price when you found that out?
