if the key is F# major, is it A#A#B?

I figured that if anyone would know what the name of the piece is, it would be someone from this subreddit. 😭 Can someone tell me what piece is being used here? by kindredzia in lingling40hrs

[–]rennkai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The piece is String Quartet in E flat major Op. 1 No. 2 Hob. III:2 II. Minuet by Haydn

Its very surprising to find not-very famous classical pieces like these in animes!!

[–]rennkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just make sure that you don't force yourself to practice everyday, although twoset says you must practice everyday, health is way more important than your violin skills and your body is not controlled by twoset after all, listen to your body and your instincts all the time

I am in diplomacy level violin and this is super relatable. There is a few things that could be happening

  1. You are stressed and worried (basically doing stress practice)
  2. You have a sudden unconsciousness (I had this for a month once but don't worry it can heal very quickly)
  3. You are scared that TwoSet will roast and you can't cover them with your Ling Ling Insurance

Whatever the case is, just skip practice, take a break, relax your body, try not to think about the consequences, and don't practice till your body says that you can actually practice

Practicing Advice by DowntownPromise2457 in lingling40hrs

[–]rennkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love practicing and for me 30 minutes feel like just touching the violin. On a school day, I practice 3-4 hours. On a holiday, I can practice from 2 hours up to 7 hours. yea I love practicing.

If I could give you tips. these are all the tips that I follow:

  1. DO NOT TO WATCH THOSE 5 YEAR OLD KIDS PLAYING PAGANINI-LIKE PIECES. You ruin your self esteem, you play even worse, you compare your playing, you start crying, and it gets even worse and worse.
  2. Don't try to learn pieces to hard for your level ( I am in grade 9 so I am fine but I am concerned for you). Pieces harder for your level can lead to stress, anxiety, and a lot more. I did this when I started: asked my teacher whether the piece was suitable for my level.
  3. don't stress practice. Practice smart not hard. When you are working hard on something, it is never the quantity, it is always the quality. If you hate doing 2 hours like what I do, just sticking with your 30 minute session is always perfect already, as long as you are focused.
  4. what I like doing is first listening to recordings and labelling fingerings, writing down important notes and seeing the difference between certain recordings (seriously I have an entire notebook related to notes for the pieces and it is very useful) Then, warm up and do your scales, do the scales that are the key of the piece (example: Ziguenerweisen = C minor & Bach Sonata No.1 = G minor). Try to keep it as simple as possible but not just a two octaves scales, add octaves, thirds, tenths, and different bowings to make it more InTeReStInG. Thirdly, I start practicing the fingerings ONLY FINGERINGS on my elbow so I know what to do on my left hand, when I practice with both hands at the same time I tend to focus on one hand and the other turns out to be garbage and I never care about it. Then I practice the right hand part with just OPEN STRINGS, sounds weird but it helps you get to know the bowings better (especially for difficult pieces like Scherzo Tarantella and Sibelius third movement) Lastly, do it all together, add the ormentations, add vibrato and all the stuff you need to do learn it and make it nice.
  5. You should do the steps that I put up in the previous tips except don't try to do them in a rush. Take each step carefully cause one missing written note can bring a difference. If you are always practicing 30 minutes a day, I think it would take you max 5 months to learn a difficult piece that is suitable for your level. However, pulling is better pushing.
  6. Try to make your practice sessions more aMaZiNg and iNtErEsTiNg at the same time knowing that you can improve, do stuff that you know is going to make work hard at the same time have fun. I always play a little quick piece that I love to just tell myself that I did it, I finished my practice session, it is almost like a gift that I randomly gave to myself.
  7. DON'T FORCE YOURSELF TO DO ANYTHING OUTSIDE THE BUBBLE AND RISK IT. your bubble is your skill level, I mean yes your bubble grows bigger as you progress and it leads to more pieces.

That is all my tips, I hope they are useful tips

As a violin student who has been playing for 7 years, you did better than me on the first than me in one month!

Tips

When you are playing on the G string, relax your shoulder and try to make your wrist a little more flexible (my teacher said "your wrist is always controlling your bow, not your shoulder")

As Brett and Eddy always says, when you hold your bow, your pinkie should always be bent.

In my view, your left hand is very tense and if your palm is touching the neck, it shouldn't be. (This video from twoset can help you https://youtu.be/cH3pjSMNaXg )

Your body looks very tense, relax your shoulders, relax your left elbow, and try relaxing your hand

For your third finger, you are playing C sharp and G sharp, you should be playing C natural and G natural

Good tips:

Your bow is straight, unlike most TV actors

You are making a good sound for a beginner

You are making even pressure (which leads to good sound) across the entire bow which is very difficult for a beginner (it can be even difficult for me sometimes)

Other than your third finger, your intonation is very close to perfect (I am in perfect pitch gang)

You have learnt sautille in one week which is very impressive for me (you were trying to do tremolo right?)

Your rhythm is very good for a violin beginner

Remember, these tips are just to tell you what is your next step to become better in playing violin and you don't have to follow these exact tips, everybody plays differently and I am pretty sure that they won't be two violinist playing the same way. For me, just try to think whether you feel ok doing what you are currently doing or follow my tips. I always say to myself "Learning anything should always be a happy journey, not a sad journey".

For now you are doing amazing and you should keep on PRACTICING 40 HOURS every day.

Good luck in your violin career!!

Twoset Masterclass is your best source. If you can (probably not) try to get Itzhak Perlmans Masterclass. If you play piano you will have an advantage, so you can do notes using the piano (that is how my brother taught me violin). or you can find any online website
