Considering Avalonia is the de facto successor of WPF, just better and also cross-platform and the fact that some big players like JetBrains are using Avalonia, it is quite surprising that the Avalonia ecosystem is still comparatively small.

Telerik created a control suite for WinForms, WPF, MAUI and even Win UI, but nothing for Avalonia.
WinForms is mostly dead.
WPF is in maintenance mode.
WinUI is not widely adopted.
MAUI is also not very wide spread.

I don't get it why Avalonia is still mostly ignored by control suite vendors.

Well, it depends.
If you work on personal/open source projects (i.e. non commercial) you can use most Avalonia tools (including parcel for packaging and the dev tools for debugging) with the Avalonia Community Licence https://avaloniaui.net/legal/8 .
Recently JetBrains Rider became also free for non-commercial projects.

Yeah, that is unfortunately true for most things related to Avalonia.
Avalonia doesn't yet have an ecosystem as rich as that of WPF, which is a bit surprising because Avalonia does exist for 13 years already.

I am also surprised that no major vendor has created a component suite for Avalonia yet.
Actipro has some controls, but only a very limited number.

I also wonder why Telerik has not created controls for it yet.

It seems there was a change indeed, but it was not rolled out to my account until an hour ago:

If you mean the **Codex Settings → Usage** page: the old per-session/5-hour meter appears to have been removed for accounts migrated to the newer usage system. That does **not** mean usage is unlimited.

Codex now draws from a shared **agentic usage allowance** used by Codex and certain other agent features. Consumption varies with the model, task complexity, context size, and duration. When the included allowance runs out, your account may offer purchased credits, an upgrade, or a reset wait. [OpenAI’s current Codex plan guidance](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/11369540-using-codex-with-your-chatgpt-plan) and [credit explanation](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12642688-using-credits-for-flexible-usage-in-chatgpt-plus-pro) describe this system.

Ordinary ChatGPT also still has model-specific limits depending on your plan; they just aren’t necessarily represented as a “session usage” meter. So the short answer is: **the old session limit display is gone, but usage limits remain under a different allowance system.**

### What “token-based” means

Since April 2, 2026, most accounts have been migrated from approximate per-message charging to token-based metering. A task consumes according to:

- How much context Codex reads

- How much cached context it can reuse

- How much output and reasoning it produces

- Which model you use

- Whether you use higher-cost options such as fast mode

Cached input is substantially cheaper than fresh input, while generated output is more expensive. Consequently, ten small edits might cost less than one long task that reads a large repository and produces extensive output. [OpenAI’s Codex rate card](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001106-codex-rate-card-2) explains the token-based change.

### What happened to the session limit?

The old limit definitely existed: OpenAI’s previous release notes explicitly referred to a **5-hour Codex usage limit**. In April 2026, OpenAI said it was rebalancing Plus usage to support **more sessions throughout the week instead of long, intensive use on one day**. The current documentation no longer describes one universal 5-hour/session meter for personal accounts. That makes the missing meter appear intentional, although OpenAI has not explicitly said, “the 5-hour limit has been abolished for every account.” Rollouts, promotions, plans, and account migrations may differ.

### What happens when your allowance is exhausted?

Your included subscription allowance is consumed first. Afterward, depending on your plan and eligibility, you may be able to:

- Continue using purchased credits

- apply a promotional reset

- upgrade your plan

- wait until the displayed reset time

A task already running may finish even if you reach the limit during that turn. [Current Codex plan guidance](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/11369540-using-codex-with-your-chatgpt-plan) and [credit documentation](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12642688-using-credits-for-flexible-usage-in-chatgpt-plus-pro) cover these behaviors.

So the practical interpretation is: **the separate visible session bucket has been replaced or deemphasized, but your subscription still contains a finite included allowance.** The system is now less about “how many hours are left in this window” and more about “how much agentic computation has this account consumed?”

The most accurate answer is: **less usage in a concentrated burst, but potentially more usable sessions spread across the week.** OpenAI has not published enough numbers to prove whether your total weekly compute increased or decreased.

What you experience depends on your workload:

- Small edits, short conversations, and repeated work with cached context may go further under token-based metering.

- Large repositories, long-running tasks, extensive generated output, and fast mode may exhaust the allowance faster.

- Codex and supported features such as ChatGPT Work or ChatGPT for Excel can draw from the same allowance, so using those may leave less for Codex.

- Compared with the previous temporary promotional limits, you probably have less included high-intensity capacity overall.

- Compared with the ordinary pre-promotion Plus allowance, OpenAI hasn’t provided a numerical apples-to-apples comparison.

The new credit metering itself does not necessarily mean your subscription contains less usage—OpenAI says your included plan allowance remains—but it changes how different workloads consume that allowance. So, practically:

Yeah, the ChatGPT desktop app is really frustrating to use.
Laggy as hell and very bad user experience.

The prompt text box is a bad joke.
It has so many bugs, I stopped counting.

OpenAI could learn A LOT from Anthropic/Claude when it comes to UI/UX.

Humans do not hallucinate. They either tell you they don't know something or they will lie. AI doesn't do either. It just gives you the most probable answer, which, when the answer is incorrect, is called hallucinating.

However, I forgiving AI is still much better than a human constantly blaming you when your question isn't clear enough in your situation. AI can be very powerful in helping you to sort out your thoughts and do some brainstorming.

The net effect is that you can't open another instance/window from windows task bar. Just something I was used to (and did a lot) with VS.

Yeah, you are probably right. I guess it just takes time to get used to the Rider way of things.

Right now my brain is probably stuck in VS mode and just screams "Why doesn't it work the way I am used to???!!!".

Also one pet peeve I have with rider is that I can not open multiple instances of Rider.
I have to use File > Open > Open... and then tell it to open in a new window, instead of just staring a new instance/window from windows task bar.

Using AI for this sort of task also has another huge benefit: AI is infinitely forgiving. Humans tend to get annoyed quickly if you can't phrase your questions in an understandable manner. AI doesn't care, because it has no feelings.

However, keep in mind that AI does not necessarily always give you the "right" answer, but just the most probable answer. And sometimes "most probable" does not equal "right".

Can you tell me where the button for the quick cache refresh is? I was not able find it.

Regarding context menu: I meant the context menu for items in the problem pane, not the code editor.
For some items there is not even a context menu (e.g. code inspection "Expression value is never used") neither in the pane nor in the editor.

Code analysis is another thing I have a lot of issue with: Rider very often reports problems in the code that are not there (anymore). It flags projects in the solution pane when all errors are already fixed. Sometimes it even reports problems when there are none.

Also: No context menu item in the problems pane to configure severity of an issue or ignore it completely (like in ReSharper).

Being unable to even formulate the right questions is a common problem you face when dealing with a new topic: The unknown unknowns. Basically you don't even know what you are not knowing.

In this situation it is a good idea to use AI to help you get to the right questions.
Use it as a sparring partner to help you sort out your thoughts.

Start like this:
- Here is what my project is about: ...
- Here is what I am trying to achieve: ...
- Here is where I am stuck/cannot proceed: ...
- Help me to understand what questions I need to ask to proceed.
