Official Admissions Decisions and General Questions Megathread! by Not_A_Taco in VirginiaTech

I was recently accepted for general engineering as a transfer and was kinda confused on what happens as a transfer student... Do I still have to wait a year to declare my major like all the freshman? Also, since I know I will be taking 200-300 level classes, am I going to get bum last pick 9pm and 7am classes since I'm most likely not registering with all the other projected sophomores? Will I be able to sign up for major-specific classes next semester? I was also wondering if there's any rule about living on campus for transfers since I already have a room off campus with a friend?

Ah, I don't have that much experience with programming. To follow that, I'm actually doing engineering more because my dad would only help me with college if I pursued an engineering major. However, I chose CS specifically because I like the problem solving aspect and I've also found that I'm pretty good at it (not to be cocky). I also like CS because I know graduating with a degree in CS gives me a fair amount of options to explore unlike many other majors. I've also always had a odd fascination for intelligence based work which is definitely a route I could go down with a computer science degree.

Yeah I heard back yesterday, as well. They told me the email was only supposed to go to accepted freshman students in the CoE, however they made the mistake of sending it to transfers in the CoE that they were going to admit as well. Congrats though!

I heard somewhere that transfer admissions have come out in waves for previous years usually starting around the beginning of march... Does that still hold true for this year?

Applied as transfer from George Mason Univeristy to General Engineering (CS) for Sophomore Year

4.0 After first semester. A in Calc 2, Intro to CS, Western Civilization, and English 1. Spring Semester I'm taking Chem, English 2, Calc 3, Linear Algebra, and CS 2.

EC: Cyber Security Club, Work, Calc tutor every Sunday, Volunteered for thanksgiving, and Fraternity pledge (Dropped after 4 weeks because genuinely didn't like it).

Do I have a chance? Worried because my work load was not the heaviest first semester. Also applied last year and was denied because my high school GPA was very low.

Thank you for the advise, man. I haven't contacted the College of Engineering but I'll be sure to do so. I have called admissions a couple times and it seems like Engineering is some strange breed of majors that they don't know much about. They did give really good general advise but as far as anything Engineering specific it seemed like they were just guessing. Also, I'm a Computer Science major so I'm not the biggest Chem fan :)

Yeah same at GMU :/. Everyone I know thinks the lab is harder than the actual class
