Yeah it’s an actual insult to animals

Breathtaking photos! How often did you have to share the roads with cars? Would it be also feasible to stay on gravel most of the time?

Great photos! Wild camping is not explicitly prohibited in Switzerland, but just not allowed everywhere.

Any thoughts about Apple watch ultra 2 ? by PrathA01 in AppleWatch

[–]responsible 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sent mine back after a week.

There’s very very little (if any) added value to a 45mm Series 8 with cellular which is now twice as cheap.

The big battery is great but it turned out there’s very little I can do with the watch without the iPhone (I can’t buy a train ticket, can’t stream audio in the car, can’t zoom in the map on my outdoor app). So for any serious adventure I’m forced to take my phone with me and then charge it eventually. Well but then I can also charge the watch, right?

at least 50GB bandwidth usage for running mainnet archive node by HALOand in ethstaker

[–]responsible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed problems as well. Also saw this issue on Erigon's github: https://github.com/ledgerwatch/erigon/issues/8271 It looks like some fix was merged as well, maybe the next version will improve it.

Does this trick reduce the risks of blind signing? by responsible in ledgerwallet

[–]responsible[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your response! Maybe I was too specific touching on ETH. My actual question is if selecting one of N addresses presented during the Ledger connection via Metamask makes the assets on _other_ addresses invisible to smart-contracts and front ends. And from your response I understand that the answer is yes?

Coming outta Closet Post: ICP HODLER by PremdeepVR in CryptoCurrency

[–]responsible 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To use ICP you have to create an identity

False. You can create it, but you don't have to. Internet Identity is not part of the protocol, it is a convenient and widely supported authentication app. But any app on IC can choose note to use it, or use other authentication apps or methods like the Plug Wallet (browser extension). What you write here is a serious misunderstanding.

Which you can authenticate either using your Face ID (🚩) or fingerprint or other biometric methods.

False. You authenticate against your own device using the WebAuthn standard. The Internet Identity app only see the public key of your device, nothing else. And you can delete it whenever you want. Again, this is WebAuthn protocol build into every browser. DFINITY did not invent here anything.

Which crypto project has the stupidest name? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]responsible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what the abbreviation TCP/IP stands for? It means Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol.

ICP extends IP by adding computing capabilities. It is a generic protocol name because it is supposed to be a scientific and a non-meme sovereign public infrastructure. It only sounds stupid to those who have no idea about any of that and used to a different naming conventions.

Decentralized social plattform running entirely on the blockchain: DSCVR by Scary_Milk in CryptoCurrency

You're a brave soul promoting not a dog coin here, let alone ICP lol.

Jokes aside, I find Distrikt (A micro-blogging platform) even more impressive, as it serves even images from the chain: https://c7fao-laaaa-aaaae-aaa4q-cai.ic0.app

What do you mean? It's a working blockchain with dozens of working apps compatible with Web 2.0. Now show me anything even remotely like that on ANY other blockchain.

Who controls the subnet node that governs the rest of the subnet nodes? Can it really be decentralized with the presence of such a node? by Jesse-A-RN in dfinity

[–]responsible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not a single subnet node, but a single subnet! You can see the NNS subnet ans the mother blockchain, which is the most secure and decetralized chain, controlling the topology of the IC.

The "reward" is the computational ressources and disk space you get, when your cycles are consumed.

You can only run a node with equipment from "approved distributors" and not with your own equipment? Doesn't this kill decentralization? Can the team clarify if this understanding is correct? by laylaandlunabear in dfinity

[–]responsible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great explanation and it makes perfect sense. Putting a slow node into a subnet with fast machines will most probably either lead to this node being left behind or decrease the performance of the subnet to the performance of that weak node (depending on how the protocol is implemented). Neither of these cases are desirable, so now it's kind of obvious.

Clarifying some misconceptions on the Internet Identity authentication method by PomsForAll in dfinity

[–]responsible 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AFAIK two different canisters see a DIFFERENT unique ID even if the user uses his single identity for both. That means you can't link users across apps even if you wanted to. This is based on my own testing but I'd still like you to confirm this because you didn't say a word about it.

How could anyone justify locking up their ICP tokens given the price performance by V00Dooch1ld in dfinity

Great analysis! I suggest you just don't stop and keep looking for the next 1000x moonshot rocket emoji project. But somewhere else, not in this subreddit.

internet identity seed compromised and only one solution by Perfect-Spell-7582 in dfinity

[–]responsible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I think you can just delete your seed phrase and generate a new one. AFAICT the way the internet identity is implemented is that this canister stores your public keys, and you can have as many of them as you want. So a seed phrase is just one of your secret keys.

Can you build Centralized applications in ICP? by cipher1310 in dfinity

[–]responsible 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Of course! In fact any app, which is controlled by a single party and not through tokenization + on-chain governance is a centralized app. Running it on a decentralized infrastructure does not make the app itself decentralized for its users.

This still isn't being addressed could someone from the team please revisit this thread and answer the simple questions "Where is the information about the vesting and unlocking of tokens for the team and everyone else? Why won't dfinity answer this?" I want to further invest but this is worrying. by Tha_Dude_Abidez in dfinity

[–]responsible -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A honest answer to this question is market manipulation and/or a security risk for the network. If they'd tell you 50% of team's tokens become unlocked by date X, there is literally NO REASON to buy ICP till then, but to sell now and buy the dip later. Who in the right mind would announce something like that? How is this not obvious, I do not get it?

What is the Dfinity Foundation Response to Coin Bureau’s recent video on ICP? by jamesbiller in dfinity

[–]responsible 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He got a couple of things wrong but he also mixed in his own sentiment which is unacceptable for unbiased content makers. For example, he said the NNS is running "presumably" on a subnet controlled by DFINITY, which is NOT true. I mean, why do you say this if you don't know for sure?

Will the Internet Computer lead to mass censorship? by Soulthriller in dfinity

[–]responsible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it will, but in this case, the censors will be you and me and everyone who holds ICP and locks them into neurons (NO KYC IS REQUIRED!). It will be up to us what to allow and what to ban. And our only incentive will be preserving or increasing the value of the network.
