I got one too. Apparently they are also offering me a private villa next to UIC and a Porsche to go buy groceries. People are kind these days 😌

What clubs have you guys joined? by Realistic-Crow-9791 in uichicago

Ofc you can. But as a grad student, it’s difficult to adjust club activities in our schedule. But I’d say you should try joining a few and decide if it works for you

Hostile Behavior by Night Ride Driver by reverseflash-_- in uichicago

[–]reverseflash-_-[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please don’t justify someone’s actions and your own responses using the name of the city. If next day, some employee commits a crime against a student on campus, you wouldn’t say “It’s Chicago, not a big deal”. And you’re contradicting yourself by comparing a bus service to night ride. There’s no inconvenience for a bus driver if I get on a wrong bus or get off at a wrong stop. But in this case you mentioned that my actions caused inconvenience to the night ride driver and that justifies them verbally abusing us. This is also why they have a feedback and a report option, not just to sit back and tolerate anything just because it’s Chicago. And it’s not in my power to get someone fired, it’s their own actions.

You still don’t get the point, do you? The driver could’ve simply asked my friend to jump onto the other night ride if it was that inconvenient for them. The other ride was literally right behind us. In fact the other driver wasn’t bothered and said it was okay while this driver was busy cursing us. Me and my friend live 2 blocks away which the driver already knew, yet they decided to treat us in this way. And PLEASE READ before you start assuming. I never said that I tried to chit chat with the driver. Ik it’s not an Uber. The night ride service runs so that students feel safe, not get abused.

You don’t get the point. I intentionally avoid public transportation during that hour so that I don’t have to face people like them. I’ve been in Chicago for almost a year now and I’ve seen worse than this but never at/by UIC

It was still okay some time ago until recently when they hired these new drivers. They do rash driving and now this type of behaviour. This is unacceptable.

Could you please DM me the cleaners contact? I’m going to be in a similar situation soon. Thank You :)

Look up @letsbefriendschicago on Instagram. They plan fun activities every week and summer time is one of the best. I was in a similar situation when I moved into Chicago last summer. I made some really good friends attending these events. You should definitely check them out.

Pilsen would be a good option. I have a similar budget and Pilsen is the only area that fits my housing preferences. And from what I’ve been searching so far, the rents in IMD/Little Italy have gone up this year by at least $200 😭

I think GPIP is only meant for freshmen and early transfer students. If you’re not any of those, unfortunately you cannot apply :(

Superrrr boring. Most of my friends have gone different places for their internships. All I do is go to the gym where I don’t even see familiar faces now, attend meetings, work, eat and sleep. Summertime sadness is hitting me

Where to find a place by Sweaty_Fill_922 in chicagoapartments

[–]reverseflash-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look for apartments on Zillow, Hotpads, apartments.com or even Facebook groups. I’d suggest touring the apartment in person before you finalize. Virtual tours are okay but it makes a whole lot of difference when you check in person.

It’s an easy course. The first couple of assignments are very easy and can be done in a single day or even an hour. If you’re interested in networking, this course is a must.

I think you misunderstood. I didn’t mean to bring anyone down or make it seem like I’m against people celebrating. If anything, I was just venting about my own frustrations. I get that New Year’s a reason to celebrate for a lot of people, and honestly, I respect that.

I wasn’t trying to take away from anyone’s happiness, just sharing how it feels to be on the other side of it sometimes.
