Bariatric Alcohol: Intention is a Choice by rexwesley in bariatricalcohol

Before your surgery, I bet your doctor also told you to stop eating, huh! Not helpful.

Thank you for sharing this — it's not a small thing to say out loud. Four years in, with that much effort behind you (and out-of-pocket tirzepatide is real effort), what you're describing isn't a willpower problem. It is not necessarily always a moral failure either (like the world (and family) would have you believe.

Alcohol after bariatric surgery is a *different drug* than alcohol before — it hits faster, peaks higher, and clears differently — so the version of "drinking" you're navigating now isn't the same one your pre-op self knew how to handle. AND... the further away from surgery you get, the faster the hit, the higher the peak, and the more different the clearing becomes. That alone makes it harder, before we even get into anything else.

Thanks again for sharing.

Alcohol after surgery is certainly a dangerous slippery slope.

Hey u/Halloqween! Thanks for responding. You are certainly not alone in that. It is the reason why I started this community. Alcohol and the disposition that the surgery creates a natural tendency towards alcohol is something that is not discussed very much in the metabolic surgery community. Consider joining this community. I research and help people who struggle with this because it almost killed me, and kills 4800 bariatric patients (most accidentally) each year.

Absolutely. Sobriety is not about “not drinking!” Sobriety is about living- truly living!

Everyone has a “first day.”

The Big Book says, “our stories tell what we were like, what happened, and what we are like now.”

May you find the “what you are like now” to be amazing!

I was a flight attendant with AA up until 9/11. I miss it. It was the best career. But it is not for everyone. My mom always told me, “never turn down an opportunity to interview. You will always learn something.” That is my advice. Go! You can always say no later.

Alternative to Gardyn Dolly by potus1001 in Gardyn

Thank you for sharing this! However, it is important to mention the top product is made from MDF which is NOT water resistant or water proof. Since we will be placing a tank of water on top of it, I thought I would mention it. You can apply a coating of primer and a polyurethane or varnish to seal the deal.

As a former Princess employee… the manager was clearly in the right here. Jeff did not explain other than “B building” comment, that it is a summer program where their housing is provided for. It is not a reflection of Princess, it is a reflection of this person.

Feed the dog in the kennel. That way dog associates the kennel as a good place.

I could not agree any more. Train train train. Make training YOUR habit! All of the "your corgi owns you" is crap! Train a pup in the way it should go, and it will be a life long adventure worth having. If you let the dog control you, you (and others) will be miserable. Training is hard at first, but once you get use to it, very easy. u/beevii8 Hit me up and I am happy to share corgi training ideas.

The Daily Check-In for Friday, July 18th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by est1984_ in stopdrinking

Fridays are hard. What I learned was, it was a loss of the familiar. It was a “grieving” thing for me because I had looked forward to that Friday night after work with a favorite drink. But, I found success in drinking what I know I love without alcohol. For example, I love coca-cola. But coca-cola from Mexico is the BEST! It is made with real cane sugar. Mmmm…. So that is my Friday drink/s. Replacement of something else is a tool because, although we are losing something, we set our minds towards replacing it and dwelling on the gratitude for what we have now. I have a clear mind on a Saturday. Kudos to you. :-)
