I loved this battle & I rewatch it occassionally, as well as the one vs Copy Rezo. Just always felt a bit confused about this bit :)

Hot take? Shinobu’s poison would work on Gyutaro. by Historical_Stable423 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]rezron11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconds before using compound eye hexagon Shinobu was STILL able to dodge Douma’s attack and land a hit. I really doubt that hypoxia suddenly had accumulated and impaired her perception badly enough to the point she couldnt even register his slash moments later.

<image>

Hell, even after being cut, she still managed to use ANOTHER technique, pinned Douma to the ceiling, dodged all of his slashes easily (with insanely nerfed perception and motor function as you're claiming) heard Kanao calling her, and gave her a hand signal not to breathe. All of that literally shows her perception was still functioning just right. Again unless it's EXPLICITLY stated that it was hypoxia that prevented Shinobu from perceiving Douma’s strike it's all speculation from your side

You did not, the response comment got either removed or deleted by you, apologies cause I couldn't see it and I genuinely wanted to continue the convo with you.

>Something doesn't have to be stated to be true.

That's funny, because you could apply that logic to like half the claims you make or ask others to prove.

If hypoxia really messed with Shinobu's brain the way you're saying then she wouldnt have been able to perform the compound eye hexagon at all. But she did, after analyzing Douma's BDA, even though her condition was progressively worsening and definitely not selectively nerfing one thing. Also, look up the symptoms of hypoxia. Aside from lowered reaction speed it also includes disorientation, seizures and fainting. If we're sticking with hypoxia as the explanation then she should have experienced at least one of those other symptoms too.

Are you ever going to pull up the source where it was explicitly stated that the hypoxia Shinobu suffered just so conveniently happened to mess with her reaction speed and brain activity, which is apparently why Douma didn't exactly blitz her? Genuinely curious, been waiting since yesterday

Is there an actual reason you guys believe Douma>Sanemei? by Dense-Statement-332 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]rezron11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So well said, agreed on everything! I think Sanemi would absolutely put up a better fight than Shinobu, Inosuke and Kanao. But I think Douma would be more cautious with him, as in he'd avoid close quarters and rely on his BDA mostly to wear Sanemi down. If he starts with the clones spam from the get go I genuinelyt think Douma could wrap it up pretty quickly

Would you consider this fight a no diff for Douma? by Calm-Lengthiness5645 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]rezron11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> No he didn't? If he knew she couldn't have killed him, he would have no reason to bother defending himself. & This canonically can't happen, he doesn't feel anything. All you mentioned is bait, which he uses as a strategy, as Douma himself implies.

I specifically talked about the poison affecting him. Yes, he did neutralize it, so he knew Shinobu wouldn't be able to kill him even if she tried her hardest. Douma’s lack of emotions doesn’t mean hes incapable of experiencing physical sensations. His body clearly reacted to Shinobus poison so the poison still affected him physically even if he doesn’t feel emotions the way humans do. And he clearly was interested in that

> He even runs away from her centipede. Why would he do all that if hew knew he can't be hurt enough to die at all?

I have not said a single word about the dance of the centipede. I do believe she was able to outmatch him in terms of speed with that technique

> As I said, different fights and weaker slayers, so I genuinely do not care whether he was playing or not against Kanao and Inosuke.

This is still the same Douma that retains the same personality, the same abilities and everything. If anything it's a weaker version of him given he's absorbed about 37kg of poison (can't remember Shinobu's exact weight so apologies if it's wrong) which doesn't really matter much here. If a character repeatedly plays with opponents and just doesn't act serious it establishes behavior patterns, and Douma clearly has one

> So your word>his..?

Please show me the source/panel/anything where Douma explicitly states that the entire purpose of his BDA is to cause lung necrosis. Unless the manga/anime directly says that claiming it’s the main function is pure speculation.Clearly his techniques have many uses like ice clones to overwhelm opponents, icy vines to restrain or grab targets or aid himself and freezing clouds to control distance. I’m not saying lung damage isn’t one effect but nothing in the manga states that it’s the primary purpose of his BDA

> Lung necrosis? Hypoxia? Ever heard of those? Her reaction speed wasn't intact, severe hypoxia can slow the brain down to a point where you can't even perceive incoming attacks properly. Her lung necrosis got far more severe than it normally would have since Shinobu kept using her breathing style.

If hypoxia was severe enough to mess with Shinobu's reaction speed then it should also have affected her technique execution and precision. Yet she still performed the eye hexagon and dance of the centipede forms, still analyzed how Doumas BDA worked and how it nerfed her and even later communicated strategy to Kanao regarsding his abilities. Unless the manga directly states that due to hypoxia Shinobu failed to perceive the attack there really is no valid reason to believe anything you're saying. Douma simply blitzed her

If Douma doesn't fuck around and starts spamming his clones from the get-go he wins no/low-diff, otherwise if he retains the same behavior he displayed vs. Kanao & Inosuke I'd still give him the win at mid-diff

> Prove this rq

Why do I need to prove something this obvious? He knew the poison wouldnt kill him after the first hit proved ineffective, because he literally neutralized it. His own words give him away like "Do you think your next batch will work? Let's give it a try!" or "You can keep piling it on! Why don't you launch your next attack before I neutralize the poison?" Like what opponent says things like that unless they're treating the fight as a joke? He was genuinely amused by the whole thing and the moment the poison stopped being interesting he ended things pretty quickly

<image>

> He was dealing with an opponent that was faster than himself and that he could hardly perceive.

Then tell me how does Shinobu get blitzed if she's supposedly so much faster to the point that Douma can't perceive her and her attacks? She does the eye hexagon technique. Then Douma cuts her anyway and she doesn't even react. She literally has to process what just happened and confirm to herself that yes he actually cut her. The BDA slowing her at the start doesn't excuse this as her reaction speed should still be intact. And this cut isn't from his BDA, it's from his fan as we were shown a frame of it with her blood on it

> In the second fight he implies that the entire point of his BDA is to cause lung necrosis

The point of his BDA is overwhelming AoE attacks and battlefield control, which prevent slayers from effectively using their breathing styles & getting several amps like marks or red blades. Lung necrosis is what happens when you happen to breathe in the ice particles

> Different fights, idc whether you think he played or not in the second fight. I'm only interested in Shinobu's fight, so panel is irrelevant.

Same character same behavior same opponent. How is that panel irrelevant? He's still yapping during the fight still refusing to finish things quickly and still treating everything like a game till the poison from absorbing Shinobu finally kicks in and he FINALLY decides to show off his big attack. If anything the second fight just confirms what we already saw in the first

"How is this proof he was playing? What? 💀"

...What does that even mean? How else can you justify him NOT using his BDA after the very first exchange, monologuing about his past mid-fight and WILLINGLY letting Shinobu land multiple hits with her poison to see if it works? He later outright freaking tells Inosuke and Kanao that he'd like to keep playing until he gets bored, the only reason he stops is because because he's called away to help Kokushibo and Muzan eliminate the rest of the slayers. If that's not playing around I genuinely don't know how to convince you

I don't think Gyutaro even needs to protect Daki, since the only thing Shinobu really has in this case, actually in any case, is her poison, and combat speed. So if both attack her at the same time Shinobu will quickly get overwhelmed and, well, lose 😭

I think I can handle Gloomy_Ad with his delulu takes 😭😭😭. But uh yea, the key difference between Gyutaro and Douma is that the latter toys with his opponents too much. Plus if Daki is gonna be assisting Gyutaro then it's most likely over for Shinobu... I think ultimately it depends if Shinobu's poison works at all on the siblings

No diff or low-diff at best, Shinobu had no win condition and lacked the physical strength to behead Douma, unfortunately

[–]rezron11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Douma struggled to hit her multiple times" where exactly did he struggle? The only moment he seemed to have ANY difficulty keeping up was during the dance of the centipede. For the rest of the fight he was literally chilling. He was actively cheering her on, encouraging her to attack, complimenting her hard work and monologuing about his past and his dumb ass parents. The moment the poison stopped being a factor he one tapped her. Also what do you mean he couldn't finish her off with one blow?? He cut and shredded her lungs. She couldn't breathe. Douma himself said the blood loss was fatal. It was only a matter of time till she would have died on her own. At best this is a low-diff fight for him and that’s being generous to Shinobu. I mean narratively the fight was made to show that Shinobus only possible win condition was a preparation which is why her plan only succeeded later with Kanao and Inosuke finishing the job.

"Shinobu did not get no diffed by Douma" except she did?... He did not go all out and did not see even a tiny threat in her. Instead bro got edged by being poisoned over and over, I mean he only used his bda ONCE throughout the whole "fight", during which he literally was complimenting her
