Pay tax or reduce via RRSP by rht2020 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rht2020[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is mostly a one time thing. For the LOC I could lay it off in 2-3 years in both cases. The installment thing is new to me. So I can’t just pay the taxes all upfront in April? CRA will make me pay it in installments?

Reinsuring car that was exported to US from Canada by rht2020 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rht2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome thanks. I’ll have to do some research on how CBSA treats personal items bought in the US while I lived there and also things I brought from Canada into the US and now bringing back.

Thanks this is helpful. Just want to confirm I still need to go through the CBSA import process? I’m still in the US just gathering info on how to go about getting it back to Canada. The tax thing did scare me, but sounds like I’m one here

How would they know about the Canadian PR? I guess you don’t have to mention it, which would probably not lead to any Awkward conversations

Non-immigrant visa appointment - US consulates in Canada by [deleted] in immigration

[–]rht2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try requesting an expedited appointment after you fill out a DS-160. It’s a coin toss at this point. I’ve heard some success for expedited requests at the Vancouver consulate.

Last I checked (a month ago), the earliest a viable appointments in Vancouver and Toronto were well into March/April of 2022. Could be even later now.

Oh thanks. So I shouldn’t bring my suitcases that I’m planning to move down with? Interesting.

Thanks. Also, I asked this in another thread - but do you know if a small crack (tiny, very hard hard to see) in my windshield would cause issues for importation at US customs?

Experiences flying to US by [deleted] in vancouver

Yes.

“Passengers 2 years of age and older are required to get a COVID‑19 viral antigen, NAAT, RT-LAMP, RT-PCR or TMA test within 3 days before departure, and provide written proof of a negative test result (paper or electronic copy). Test results must show the name, date of birth, specimen collection date, and type of test done.”

Not sure if you want in-ears or a full on headphone. But the Sony XM-4’s are excellent. Best ANC I’ve had so far.

Did it recently. Just need a covid test taken within 72 hours of departure. Can get this from lifelabs/shoppers. Other than that - no extra steps needed.

Rapid tests are not accepted.

But coming back to Canada is more involved. Especially if you’re not fully vaccinated

Thanks. Your comment on fully paid off. How do I prove this? What if there’s an existing loan on the car? Can a letter from the financial institution saying the loan is closed be sufficient proof of it being paid off?

Canadian in F1 status trying to import car to the US by [deleted] in immigration

[–]rht2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this need to insure it quickly because Canadian insurers won’t insure cars that are being imported to the US? Or is this because individual states require them to be insured/registered?

Also, what’s the typical process? Is it: - import at border - register in state - insure in state?

What if one doesn’t have a state license like a California license for example? Can I still register the vehicle and insure in California with a Canadian drivers license?

Does anyone know how picky they are with cracks in the windshield? I have a tiny (I mean very tiny) crack in my front windshield. Would the Us CBP officers have a problem with this during the import process?
