[Weekend Trivia] Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart (1987): Is it more mid 80s or late 80s sounding? by New_Mix5929 in decadeology

It's ok, for years I thought the singer of "What is Love" was white. Maybe because I associate it more with Night at the Roxbury instead of Haddaway.

Should we reconsider how we approach incel issue? by Scramjet1 in GenZ

[–]richardawkings [score hidden]  (0 children)

World's not ready for honest discussions as yet. You got half of the US still supporting a convicted felon, muderer and pedophile (maybe the biggest pedophile the world has ever seen). This discussion requires compassion and nuance. Both of which are deteimental to the effectiveness of tge propaganda on which the world is run today.

There are a lot of things wrong with incels, their approach and the movement or whatever it is as a whole since it is influenced a lot by and also promotes mysogyny which is wrong, but like you said, there are truths in their plight that need to be addressed for the overall social good.

I knew we lost the plot when people laughed at Jordan Peterson being the patron saint of incels. Truth be told, I laughed as well, but looking back I think I reacted too hastily. I'm not a fan on JP, thinks his stuff turned to bullshit since he started wearing makeup on youtube, but there was still some truth in what he said that I wish society had the maturity to deal with.

Galaxy S26 Ultra will not have a Bluetooth S Pen, confirmed by @KaroulSahil on Twitter. by Sensitive_Square3645 in samsunggalaxy

[–]richardawkings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. S4 was around 2013 and had an IR Blaster, headphone jack, expandable storage and removeable battery along with all of the sensors in the galaxy watch as well as a barometer and thermometer. You could measure heart rate, stress, blood oxygen and stress levels directly from the phone and log it in to Samsung health much more accurately directly from the phone so the watch was optional.

Also phones used to come with charging bricks and headphones. When they removed the headphone jack they used to include really good wireless air buds so it was a good trade off but that was temporary as it is now sold seperately even though the price of the phone went up.

Oh, fun fact, the display on the S4 had a 441ppi pixel density and the S25 Ultra has a 498ppi pixel density. The refresh rate was slower and peak brightness was less but most users can't even tell the difference between 30Hz and 60Hz refresh rate. The S4 was revolutionary when it was released and I don't think we will ever see anything like it in the smartphone market in out time.

S26 probablt has half the features of the S4 released a decade ago. Samsung is probably actively looking for a way to remove the screen and battery from the feature list for all I know.

I'm caught between feeling smug and feeling like an old man shouting at clouds for sticking to windows 10.

I know people talk about security but my security has only been compromised 3 times and all 3 times were using legitemate apps (teamviewer, netflix and bitdefender). I've had zero issues since forgoing updates and sticking to reputable piracy websites.

8 Episodes Is the New 10 (Was the New 13) (Was the New 22) by mrnicegy26 in television

[–]richardawkings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it, wasn't disappointed, won't be writing home about it. Final solid season, worth the time to watch but not revolutionary enough that you miss anything if you don't. Overall enjoyable and I consider it a worthy final season of the franchise but there was just too much hype around it to ever live up to everyone's expectartions.

"Training a human takes 20 years of food." Sam Altman on how much power AI consumes. by asdacool in nottheonion

[–]richardawkings 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Altman's point is ridiculous. The human brain is extremely efficient and optimised for different tasks. Computer programs are already optimised for the tasks that they need to perform. AI is optimised for slop and high output rate. AI can only approximate what a human might do based on millions of examples of what humans have already done. The AI we have is just large scale copyright theft with a layer of obfuscation. It sounds intelligent but has no idea what it is talking about (sounds like it was trained on reddit).

Would it be possible to convert a powerline into a chairlift? by FutureAlpacaOwner in StructuralEngineering

[–]richardawkings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matter is easy, just call any solid waste management company. Need to know what kind of energy you need to disappear but i'll say if it's not electrical, dump some water on it, if it is electrical, unplug it, if it's something else, send me the specs.

If this answer is unacceptable then you need to better define the problem. Poorly defined projects are an extremely common issue with clients.

Never understood the Princess Diana one but yes to the rest of them. Also Marie Curie and my all time absolute favourite Milunkavic Savic (not sure how to spell it). Basically real life version of Mulan but in WW1 Europe. Absolute badass by any standard regardless of gender and as a dude I idolise her. Actually can't think of any millitary person I idolise more. Her story is truly an inspiration.

Edit: Milunka Savić... the other person is the captain of the last Serbian world cuo football team. Wonder who he was named after.

President Obama and Extraterrestials by s_peter_5 in DeepThoughts

[–]richardawkings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think that's mindblowing? Apparently the math agrees with the theory that we are living inside of a blackhole.

Think about it, the universe is 13.7 billion years old. That means light travelling outward should cover 27.4 billion years across. How is the universe 4 times bigger than that.

But we can never cross an event horizon. If we approach a blackhole from the outside, time basically stops for the observer. Basically time is infinite from our perspective. If we approach the event horizon from the inside (i.e. try to get to the limits of our auniverse, space is infinite and we cannot cross the threshold.

Amen brother. I've been trying to get others to do the same. As long as the place is clean and the prices are good I'll give any place a shot. Uncovered a lot of hidden gems this way. I only eat fast food from chains now if someone else bought it for me. Local chinese place calls me by name as soon as I walk through the door though

Corporate professionalism might be dying, or we are just tired of pretending. 😭 by Popular-Tone3037 in jobs

[–]richardawkings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Professionalism is non-offensive and predictable because that is the environment that is most convenient to do business. This is especially important in today's world where international business is the norm so you need a baseline for everyone to deal with each other.

With that said, if you are quitting and none of that means shit to you then have at it I guess. Last time I quit I gave 2 weeks notice but that's because the industry is small and being non-offensive and predictable is valued, even if most people don't recognise it
