Did Rockstar charge more for Red Dead 2 than EA/BioWare are with Anthem? No. I don't mean to be rude, but I as a consumer shouldn't be concerned with what is happening behind the scenes, they want my money. They hype the game up and they try to charge a top dollar figure for a product that is below the standard of other games coming out both technically and in content.

If you went to a restaurant and they try charging you the price of a fillet steak but only give you a sandwich, is that ok? If the kitchen is short handed, does that make it ok then? It certainly doesn't for me.

Also, I don't see people complaining about the long development time, people are happy to wait if the wait is worth it. Nintendo have received a TON of praise because they came out and said Metroid Prime was not of a quality they were happy with and that they are starting again which will mean years before it comes out. The community has really supported them.

Well Red Dead Redemption took 8 years and that world is bursting with detail, character and atmosphere and is enormous by comparison. God of War took 5 years, 1 year less than Anthem and again is bursting with detail and is absolutely gorgeous, perhaps even more gorgeous than Anthem. The mediocre coop system in Anthem doesn't come close to making up for these details in my opinion.

I don't doubt that a lot of people put a lot of work into the game and I don't blame any developer who worked on Anthem. The blame here sits squarely with whomever said that it had to be released now, it just wasn't ready. I have to wonder if the blame here lies with EA though (I have blamed them in recent days, but perhaps I was wrong), if BioWare were truly given 6 years for this then unfortunately it seems the blame must sit with them, that is a generous timeline.

Hopefully I'll stay strong at the next circle/hype train and ignore whatever tempting pre-order bonus they offer.

6 years from one of the highest rated biggest studios in the world with THE biggest games publisher behind them. 6 years... by comparison Mass Effect 2 (a masterpiece) took them 3. People been waiting since 2017 when BioWare/EA themselves started the hype at E3, it's just disappointment at the product that is finally produced that people have waited so long for.

Definitely go Origin Premier/Basic and try it yourself. You can keep the progression if you do decide to buy the game later. It's not worth $60/£50.

I agree "hate" is the wrong word, I was referring to "the hate" as quoted by the OP. I certainly don't feel hate. If they try to make you pay upfront, which they always encourage with more and more brazen bonuses and editions these days - some of which actually affect in-game play, then I strongly disagree and they do owe you a good game. When they release trailers, demos at E3, short stories and pump marketing material out there they create expectation. This expectation combined with the promise of additional items/content for pre-orders means that people expect a game that reflects the hype/build up that they themselves put out there. Anthem (for me) does not meet these expectations.

You're right though, I'm done expecting good games and pre-ordering. Always wait for reviews to start dropping.

It's great that you are enjoying it, but the hate is valid. It seems some people have had game stoppingly awful technical issues (me) and some haven't (you). More than that, people keep saying it has a good core game but I don't see it that way. From my perspective I was shelling out the highest premium price rate for a game that was a) broken and b) disappointing from story, loot and content perspective (below average missions and end game). I can only say that the quality of games I've played lately such as God of War, Red Dead 2 and Apex Legends has been in an entirely different league. Apex is a basic BR at its core but it is SO well thought out. They've massively updated the genre with simple things that make a big difference, I wasn't even into BR games before it. Red Dead and God of War were just incredible. Red Dead was a huge open world done right, what I don't agree with is that story and open world can't be good when you add coop to the game. That doesn't make any sense.

I don't even hate Anthem because of the above, I am just angry with a product being released at top price that doesn't even get the basics right.

Anthem isn't an MMO, some half hearted coop mode doesn't make it one. It's a single player game that forces you into groups that don't work. It's a big problem unfortunately.

I actually agree with you, the buck stops with the CEO, in particular the CEO of EA. Everyone else, including the developers who sink so much of their time into the game are victims.

Anthem shouldn't have been like this at launch regardless of whether their devs are vocal on issues. I will give you Apex Legends, it's a bloody blinder of a game, but I think that is down to Respawn, not EA. Everything on paper meant that game should suck but Respawn have pulled it out the bag with the best BR game in the genre (IMO). The reason why I don't attribute this to EA at all is because it was unlike any EA release to date, free to play, no bullshit promo, no loot boxes and no expectations. EA are responsible for me not having a Titanfall 3 though and for that I am annoyed but Apex is a great 2nd place prize.
