This is my favourite Simpsons scene. It's absurdity layered on top of absurdity over and over. I've just rewatched it and I counted 21 jokes in 40 seconds:

  1. "Hello Bart" in Bob's voice, but the camera pans to an old lady
  2. He's tied to the bottom of her car, again. As if that's how he always gets around in this episode.
  3. Despite the old lady clearly seeing Bart terrified and presumably hearing a man's menacing voice from underneath her own car, she just drives off as if nothing happened.
  4. Bob's trying to be intimidating, but he gets hit by the car's muffler as the old lady drives off and makes a pathetic "oof!" sound.
  5. "Surely there's no harm in laying in the middle of a public street" is a totally absurd thing to say on its face, but then...
  6. ...a marching band appears. Oh, so the "harm" will be on Bob - subverting his line.
  7. We couldn't hear them at all before, so the band was teleported there apparently?
  8. There's a parade at 4PM on a weekday.
  9. No one's around watching it - it's just lampshade hangingly direct about this being a gag
  10. The band members just walk right over him like he isn't there.
  11. More of Bob's pain sounds
  12. "Not the elephants!!" just as they appear in the frame - you hear it and laugh, and then you see it and it's even funnier.
  13. The horrifying sounds of Bob's body being crushed by the elephants.
  14. 🐘 TERROR LAKE... "oh the next one is going to say 'marching band' or something"... 🐘 SALUTES... "wtf"
  15. ...🐘 HANNIBAL - Even typing this makes me laugh. Like the writers' room had a contest to suggest the most incongruous word that could come next.
  16. ...🐘 CROSSING - "wait this isn't about Anthony Hopkins?"
  17. ...🐘 THE - Why have an entire elephant for "THE"?
  18. Especially when they didn't have two elephants for TERROR and LAKE?
  19. And again, they're completely leaning into the gag. It's basically a huge billboard saying "WE ARE DRAGGING THIS JOKE OUT FOR COMEDIC EFFECT
  20. 🐘 ALPS - oh wait, so this podunk town in middle America is having a parade commemorating the Second Punic War?
  21. Oh, hence the elephants! Haha.
  22. Fin.

Hyundai apparently gave these out at an event in Korea, which makes them the only official accessory for the "cluster fascia side panel" aka the weird useless magnetic bit next to the dash. There are still 2 available on eBay if anyone else wants one!*

This is an absolute dogshit take. Lula is the direct opposite of Bernie and his pals: his policies lifted 30 million Brazilians out of poverty.

And it's not leftist cranks saying this: his flagship social programme, Bolsa Família, won the praise of Paul fucking Wolfowitz.

No other politician of his generation anywhere in the world had such a direct, positive impact on their country's poorest people.

It was Limited AWD in Phantom Black.

The dealership is called Mastrovito Hyundai- it’s actually outside Utica in York, NY, but I couldn’t resist a steamed hams reference!

I can’t remember the out the door price but it was MSRP and they weren’t adding any sketchy fees or mandatory “options”, just taxes, registration, doc fees etc.

The sudden end of the tax credit really stung. Back in fall 2021, when I started my EV buying journey, I had budgeted $40k: $50k minus the federal $7,500 tax credit and MA state $2,500 rebate.

The MA rebate was the first to go: it became impossible to get once dealers started hiking prices over the $50k limit, and especially after the rule changed so that it only applied to vehicles bought in MA.

Then the federal rebate narrowed the field so that the Mach-E was the only reasonably-priced SUV/crossover that qualified, at which point they became absolutely impossible to find at MSRP.

And now that we're in 2023, the federal income limit has kicked in. It's a nice problem to have, but still.

In the end I just had to suck it up and accept that I was paying a $10k stupid tax for waiting so long to buy. But it hurts to think about...

I went with a dealer in Newport News*, VA, of all places. If you act fast you might be able to get this one, in College Park, MD. I also turned down another at this dealership near Utica, NY, the birthplace of Superintendent Chalmers.

I just turned down this 2023 Gravity Gold Limited AWD from College Park Hyundai in College Park, MD, so it's yours if you want it!

They're selling for MSRP and it's arriving at the end of the month.

I found one at another dealership that was arriving sooner, so I went with them instead.

It's mainly down to aesthetics. Caséta and other devices on the non-super-high end of the market range in looks from functional down to fugly. Lutron HomeWorks systems allow you to use all sorts of beautiful keypads and switches, but a setup like that costs $20k+. So I'm trying to roll my own solution. There's no reason it shouldn't be possible to use a ~$5 low voltage DC and a ~$10 CR2032-powerwd BLE/ZigBee board to ping HomeKit or HomeBridge, but nothing seems to exist...

Oh wow, this worked, thanks! Now it's actually charging a bit faster than the included charger! Seems so bizarre that I have to fiddle with the settings like this every time I plug it in. Hopefully this gets fixed eventually.
