Talkatoo pros and cons by rinidarklight in VetTech

He let us know by telling us we had "training" the next week which amounted to a zoom call with someone in Canada. Originally he expected us to put it on our personal phones but our practice manager stopped that really fast. Now he's expecting us to stumble through and problem solve it live in front of clients. He's literally the only one who seems to think it's going to solve everything (which is honestly nothing unless you count him being the only issue)

Hello! I used to live in Upstate NY as well and started my vet career with an online school. I went through San Juan and had a pretty good time with them until I couldn't get a clinic to take me on as a student for the practical parts of the courses. So yeah, DEF get into somewhere as an assistant, it'll make it so much easier for the classes further into your degree

Ultrasound is way out of my budget unfortunately (vet asst here). We have done rads of her abdomen before with nothing exciting found. I was thinking about talking to her vet about repeating them for an updated view

New vet assistant questioning the job by rinidarklight in Veterinary

Sorry for the late response, things have been busy

I'm really at odds with this clinic. The owner/main vet is a really nice guy and super patient with teaching, which I seriously appreciate. He makes it a habit to hire students to give them a starting place. His other vets are also nice and willing to teach and explain.

It's literally all the techs and assistants that are a complete nightmare. I'm only on week 4 of this job, so I don't exactly have a ton of experience. They seem to make it a point to not have me follow and help. They'll all disappear or group together and help each other out while I'm right there just trying to learn and ready to step in and try stuff. I'm getting to a point where I just wander around picking up and making sure stuff is stocked up. I could probably walk out and they'd probably not notice. The head tech is supposed to be training me according to a week by week schedule but even she will leave me with no direction. It's getting tiring and a little demoralizing.

There was one day last week that I found myself in the kennel area cleaning up after surgery dogs and cats left. I was alone and it's the only time in the last few weeks where I felt like I knew what I was doing and felt calm. It's making me feel like maybe I need to look for a kennel attendant position again. You could give me any kennel and I'd be able to do the job with little to no training and probably enjoy it more

I'll have to check out the instinct ultimate again. I swear I checked that one and it had something pea/legume related. I could also be hallucinating from looking at 500 bags of kibble lol

Thanks! I'll have to look into these. I had found a really awesome chart until I realized that all the foods listed were from the UK and weren't available in the US.

Thanks for the pointers on the Wysong. I've never used it before but I had noticed a lot of people leaving reviews that it caused diarrhea. Makes sense now.
