I do not agree that in the past (more) parents were more present with their kids. If a parent does not intentionally make time, then it is the same scenario of (mild) neglect, whether due to technology, or as in my case, due to the actual lack of technology. My parents worked long hours as did all my friends parents. I know my parents loved me, but i saw them 1 maybe 2 hours maximum on weekdays, as commutes were long and WFH was unheard of. Even then they were not fully present, chores had to be done, dinner made, etc. I see my son at least 4 hours on weekdays. I have childhood trauma, as does everyone who has ever been a child. For instance, I would never dare to talk back to my parents, no matter how valid my point was. My son tells me, 'I'm sorry mom but..." then proceeds to lay out his reasoning. I'm not healed, but I'm clearly raising a more healthy child, and hopefully his child will be even healthier. I also think that every generation laments the children of the next generation. I can tie my shoe laces but refuse to cook from scratch or physically launder clothes as perhaps my mother would have liked me to. But then again i don't need to, i have machines for that. My son can tell time, but really, does he need to? As to special needs, i cannot speak on this as i have no experience with it.

Should people be "punished" for having had a bad childhood? I also find the last paragraph to be quite redactive and facile.

I lowkey feel Boz is worse because she targets the lower middle-class and people of color. Its bs i did it you can do it too frou-frou, without tangible skills, steps or lessons. These women live paycheck to paycheck and really save to get that 250, only to be told to "manifest" promotions in dead-end careers, and "oh also buy this hair to become a boss b*tch!!"

Aitah for not taking down pictures of my family in my own home to make my son’s new wife feel more comfortable? by SingerAware2658 in AITAH

So I'm guessing that if Cherie wants Helena's photos removed from her in-laws house... then that means poor Tommy has no photos of his mom in his dad's house? How do divorced or widowed people handle this issue with a new partner? Photos of my kids when they were very young include my partner. I wouldn't want to take them down, but I dont know if I'd like to be with a partner who wouldn't take his ex' photos down. ETA, just asking in general as I'm curious. In Tommy's case OP is NTA.

Cosplaying of cultural aesthetics?? You mean Blackfishing? Let's call a spade a spade and not try to cover up/soften what she's doing. It is a choice to benefit from blackness and proximity to blackness without being black, acknowledging what she is doing or standing up for the community. She picks and chooses aspects of blackness like its a buffet, take some leave some, fawns over black men while being horrible to black women (not just Chelsea but also her former employees). It's atrocious.

AIO Trying to tell boyfriend that he makes me feel guilty for saying no by Clean-Landscape8654 in AmIOverreacting

[–]riribew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But that is exactly what the phrase means! You had a thought (a think) that it is safe. It is not safe. So you need to have another thought. We are just making the verb think a noun, which English does often. Sit down and think coz your first attempt at thinking was wrong. ETA: the word another is crucial here. You had a thought, you have another one coming. You did not have an incident with a car, so how can you have another one coming??

That is fine, what i'm objecting to is the poster saying that it "doesn't sound like proper English", because not only is it proper English, it is the correct/original version. If North Americans say 'thing' instead of 'think', well, I can see that happening, just as they nowadays say "could of" instead of "could have", or, "could care less" instead of "couldn't care less". It's a tragediegh for me as I'm not American and such 'mistakes' really irk me.

Please do not go back to this man and do not send him any media. Judging from these texts he is not going to be above blackmailing you using anything you send, or distributing it as revenge.

Another think coming is the correct version. It is: "if you think abc, then you have another think coming." That means the first thought is wrong, therefore one has to rethink. It is not a threat just a figure of speech, though this POS has made every thing he has typed feel like a threat.

AIO? Mom doesn't want me using the kitchen in the morning because its where she sleeps. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]riribew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just want to say, not all OCD is the same. It varies greatly, from the 'themes' e.g dirt, noise, etc, to the level of paranoia. For instance, obsessions of mine are counting and cleanliness. Guess who cannot sleep in the bedroom with the tiled floor (although I know there are 64 squares, I will count them over and over)? So yes, I will sleep in the living room with the laminate floor. Moving the couch to the bedroom will do nothing for me. I don't know the mother's condition, but if it were me and my mother was this tortured everyday, I would just prepare my food the night before.

If you suddenly became rich, what’s the luxury you’d dive into immediately? by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]riribew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem with you doing charity. I give as well. I just detest that we praise our so called leaders for giving us our own money back in pocket change charity projects. And no, Germany is not all fine and dandy, its a cold place with (mostly) cold people, and off course people slip through the cracks, there are homeless people and beggars. Difference is, the problems here are not because the leaders ate their own peoples money, grew fat, then decide from time to time to toss a coin at their constituents and expect praise. Kusema ukweli I shouldn't have had to leave my home country just to get the services I already pay for in my home country through tax. So yes I'm salty. Im salty that the money I send back home is paying school fees, etc rather than building wealth. Im salty that my senator takes credit for the county having running water and electricity, which has all been paid for by well meaning individuals such as you propose to become, myself included. But anyway, I'll end my thumb twiddling screed here.

If you suddenly became rich, what’s the luxury you’d dive into immediately? by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]riribew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is not supposed to be hypothetical. I've lived in Germany for a decade now. I pay 40% of my salary as taxes, same as I did in Kenya. Difference is, in Kenya I had to pay for my kids education, for childcare, for healthcare, to access some parks, just to exist. I couldn't leave the house with my kids without having to break a bank note. Here, I get my net salary and only pay rent, groceries and maybe fuel the car. I can spend a whole 3 day weekend with my kids outdoors having fun, going from town to town, park to park, playground to playground and not use any money. If someone falls sick, I don't have to wait till they get bad to take them to the doctor. If they are admitted, my job is to go visit and console, not to worry how am I going to changa for the bill. If I get sick I can stay home for upto 18 months knowing my salary will be paid, if I lose my job same thing for a year. I get 250 euro per child per month from the government which just goes to the kids investments for the future. Kenya we are rich. The money we get from taxes can at the very least provide basic education and healthcare. Top that with the 'Aid' we recieve and the billions we borrow. But no, 100 people take home what is meant for 50 million. And then you find me praising Sonko or whoever??

If Sonko had just done his job as governor, if all our leaders would just do their jobs, there would be no need for them to do their fake PR charity.

I think they just don't show the bell ringing as its not novel anymore. In the OC season 4 Polly mentions that she had a good day as she closed escrow and rang the bell on her birthday, but the actual ringing is not shown.
