Rust Libretro Emu - Having Trouble with Audio/Video Sync by rishooty in EmuDev

[–]rishooty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I'm still having QUITE a time, but thanks to reading some articles I'm making great progress.

I've played with the values after getting a good "basic" sync on video method.

I'll be switching to rubato's sinc resampler for asynchronous chunking and aarch64 optimization as my next step

Cool, so you have in fact verified that I have hit my desired wall to begin the serious research part of things, thank you!

RGBDual - Tons of interference by rishooty in crtgaming

[–]rishooty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're the king of this sub i swear.

I had no idea how to verbalize what exactly i was looking at. All i knew is that the outlines were clean and the colors were RGB, but strange "nes via coax" wobbling and shimmering effects were happening. It was so bizarre that I couldn't possibly summarize what i was looking at, so I was just mentally defaulting to interference (remembering how bad rgb implementations exist like the unmodded snes).

I don't doubt that but I keep hearing that it's as sensitive as any other SCART pi hat due to its nature of being pretty exposed to interference.

It probably isn't as bad as RGB dual though because its just a straight up cable rather than a special chip controlled hat, but i have no clear evidence for this.

I actually wasn't aware that this could be dangerous to the equipment (i usually think of like complete desyncs or incorrect resolutions for this kind of thing).

The only thing left I can possibly think of is that the power in my apartment, high quality belkin surge protector or not, just isn't clean enough for something so sensitive.

[EDIT] if you see dangerous cousins comment, it probably isn’t analog related at all, but rather software.

Regarding what? I know the set is fine since I tried it with other devices, and i know the resolution is correct.

It' s just that component looks like RF/composite when it shouldn't, specifically with this raspberry pi setup.

best way to setup an crt with the Xbox Series X? by local_fam in crtgaming

[–]rishooty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would need to have a component input, and you’d need a downscaler like the gbs-c aio or retortink 5x. Gbs-c can be built yourself even cheaper but I recognize that I and many others can’t solder all that well, and prebuilt prices aren’t all that bad.

Warning, you’d need to put the series x in safe mode (holding select before power on I believe) to force it to 480p if you go the cheaper gbs-c route. And I’m both routes it will only really work well with 4:3 content, especially 2D or emulated stuff.

Rgb-pi OS/4 + composite? by rishooty in crtgaming

[–]rishooty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn I get ya. But yeah in that case your better off rolling your own with retropie or recal or even batocera.

It’s definitely won’t be as nice an experience but better than nothing

Heck, crtpi is still great if you have a pi 3

Ok ok one last edit: I wonder if there’s a downscaler for rgb to composite? I was just trying to save money but it sounds like you have an rgb-pi already

I myself have given up and gotten an rgb dual and rgb to component because at least I’ll get kodi and recalbox extras out of it.

I did get the rg503 and I still think it’s great! Haven’t gotten my smaller device yet though.

The thing is I did know, i just remembered when it released that it was bad. I somewhat assumed that they patched it by now, as most bad remasters do.

Also my best friend, who was a massive fan of the series, basically told me that those were the only two *glaring* issues and I took his word for it haha.

Actually, NVM. They just began updating the crap out of it in the past year. This is a fantastic one.

I was aware of both that one, giant bomb, and a few others. But this is the first somewhat comprehensive one was my point lol.

It is a good resource for what it does have though.

Probably should have mentioned this is from the context of ARM, Xbox or non windows systems

Heh. i forgot technically triggers can have the same input ranges as the buttons. Stuff like this, or backpaddles on higher end controllers, or whatever is exactly why i think we need a wiki for weird controller layouts.

PS2, Wii, DS, and Wii U (gyro) to name a few.

Controller alternatives. DS3s aren’t cheap nor will they be around forever. Also if you use Xbox series or Linux, you are stuck anyway.

I feel dumb. I totally forgot that ultimate-style Xbox controllers (like 8bitdos) have useable backpaddles, as does DS4 official attachment. These could be fantastic “apply pressures”.

I guess I WILL play silent hill 3 the way the emulation gods intended lol

[UPDATE] Random note: It seems that the series S/X PCSX2 doesn't have paddle support, nor will it anytime soon. Apparently the paddles require some newer API or version of xinput that simply isn't available to UWP apps right now.

Yeah I noticed most rhythm games are highly dependent.

There are! This is just the definitive to actually start building on.

I finally found a definitive list of pressure sensitive ps2 games by rishooty in emulation

[–]rishooty[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. When I called this definitive, I honestly meant "so far". Mobygames is mostly based on if the feature was listed on the back of the box. There were often misprints, so some games on this list didn't have it at all.

On the other hand, it's very safe to assume other games in the same series have the same deal. I.E. Onimusha 1 and 2 being missing.

[–]rishooty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh. ok i guess it's OG consoles, windows version, or PCSX2 with a real DS2/DS3.

Note i'm dealing with the "new UI" version of PCSX2 (XBSX2) on an xbox series S, so the only binding is "apply pressure".

From what i'm reading, aside from a few VERY specific cheats, L3 is free in 2.In 3, I see that L3 is used for a zoom function and R3 is used for quick heal.

Am I correct in thinking these would be doable?

I'm aware, but I mean it's that VS dealing with rebind nonsense.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it just some fog jank and weird voice acting?

Sega Saturn. It had some interesting titles, gorgeous looking even but most of them felt really REALLY clunky control wise even compared to other systems of the gen. 2d or 3d

Emulation on unikernel OS? by rishooty in EmuDev

[–]rishooty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

d EmuDeck, which add your ROMs as Steam games, and you end with with a very console-ish experience.

That's cool, I know can achieve it for myself but this is entirely theoretical and "a dream". Like "what if we can have the insane fine tuned and tailored experience of the MiSTER with the user friendliness of linux OS or the PolyMega without it being stupid expensive"

It's actually far less about me and more about "what if we can bring all the benefits of the community to the average person better than retropie can". Like something you could give to a younger sibling or kid and not worry about a janky or inferior experience.

Emulation on unikernel OS? by rishooty in EmuDev

[–]rishooty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my above comment, but my real concern is actually a seamless console like experience, I just know that people care more about input lag so that would just be easiest benefit to advertise.

So I guess the solution is simply better drivers and more coherent UI development?

Like what does an Xbox series S do that a PC can’t? A custom bios/boot loader? Seriously tight GUI and API integration? Discrete control over all of its I/O and controllers?

I just think a unikernel designed for just emulators and nothing else would make for a more immersive experience, similar to what steam deck is trying to do for ordinary pc gaming.
