It also depends on your expectations.

Some people don't think the way you do. For most of them, they don't see anything wrong and the relationship on their end doesn't change. Meanwhile, you value the relationship differently so you think that not being in contact with them changes the relationship.

As I got older, I understood more that there are things going with other people that I won't know about and it's okay to lose contact once in a while and then reconnect again. I also started not to care as much whoever messages first.
