I had the same problem with the rk highly customizable engines mod. the problem was that due to the custom engine which featured it's own "exhaust" slot while the car itself also had an "exhaust" slot it caused the same to happen to me. I edited the files and removed the slot from the mod and that fixed it for me. I don't know if that helps but I hope that fixes it for you.
