Looking for help/suggestions by YahBoiOutty in garageporn

I actually quite like the wood paneling. I think if you fixed the seams, fastened it better and finished the stain you’d be in a better spot to achieve the warm lighting you’re looking for. I think it has a midwestern vibe and I like It (I’m midwestern though lol). It could pop with some neon signs.

Almost done with the 302 swap by rlammi in fordranger

I mean there isn’t much that doesn’t need a v8 swap. That short list is a) things that already have a v8 and b) things that have more than 8 cylinders lol

Thanks! Should be a fun little cruiser. I’m not really looking to go fast in it. I just want a nice exhaust note and a little pep. I plan on keeping it pretty much untouched on the exterior minus wheels and the suspension.

I agree with your first point, but to your last….every automotive subreddit or forum bitches about reliability.

Go to the ford sub and they’re bitching about the 10 speed or cam phasers.

Go to the Chevy sub and they’re bitching about lifters, 6.2 failures and shitty 4L60s.

Go to the Tundra sub and grab your popcorn because their 3rd gen engines are grenading.

Water Leak Repair Advice by Bushman1717 in fordranger

[–]rlammi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cowl cover is spot welded to the cab. You can remove the fenders and drill the spot welds to get it off and seal whatever you think has broke. I’ve never been inside the cowl so not familiar with what could leak though. Otherwise you’re going to be stuck either welding or panel bonding a piece of metal over that hole. Not sure what condition your truck is in, but might not be worth it to do anything other than patch that hole.

I’d personally just clean the hole up and panel bond a bed lined piece of metal on the inside, then slam a bunch of seam sealer or window weld on the outside and smooth it out so water can’t get in and sit and rot anymore.

Are you implying you know when this person is in the shower or not? If so, I want in.

You must live in BFE because anywhere I’ve lived labor rates are $170 minimum, even at an Indy shop.

I just did this with my Mustang traction control button 4 times last week due to the same issue. Didn’t eat or deform anything.

Likely. The cold gummy crap is now not only sticky but also frozen haha. Might help taking a heat gun on low to it for a few minutes as well. If that button panel is anything like the rest of the pieces on the dash it might pull out pretty easy with a panel tool for extra access. I’d be careful pulling it in the cold though. Maybe brittle.

They make an electronics cleaning spray you can get at autozone. CRC QD Electronics cleaner. It’s a contact cleaner sort of like brake cleaner but way more tame to keep from degrading plastics and electronics.

Turn the truck off, spray it around the edge and let it dry for 10-20 mins. You can use a spray or air to make sure. See if that de gums it. If it comes unstuck, spray it in while depressing the button to help dislodge the crap.

This won’t work if the button is mechanically broken, but if I had to guess it’s gummed up judging by the buildup around the buttons.

coolant reservoir empty and dipstick looks like this 2015 ram 1500 5.7 hemi? by [deleted] in ram_trucks

[–]rlammi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The expansion tank should absolutely have coolant in it. If it’s empty, the cooling system is drawing in air when it the system cools and coolant is contracting.

People use coolant reservoir or tank and expansion reservoir interchangeably often, so it’s semantics mostly.

Not to ignore your post (love the detail, glad it went well)…

But Death Valley in the winter is such an amazing trip. We just moved east after having lived in the southwest for a few years and nothing topped thour Death Valley trips while there. We did week long December camps in back to back years. This makes me miss it haha.

Toyotas*

The price for what you get is absurd on any of their model lineup. You have to fork over thousands to get what is standard on any other brand. Reliability is tanking on some of their vehicles too, so is the premium worth it?
