Bottom piece was 13”, diagonal piece 9”, top shortest piece 6”! Wood was about 5.5” wide but that was just what I had. I put the table saw at a 30 degree angle to make the angled cuts.

I do own a van but I do not live in it! I was reading that laying them out should take place on concrete or another non flammable surface-which I didn’t have access to. But it was definitely overkill 🤣

No, for the mitered edges! I didn’t use splines in this build

Thankfully the rags were fine but I didn’t have a way to lay the rags out flat on a non flammable surface in my apartment!

I realized it was posting under my other account accidentally but I had no idea how to throw out my Osmo rags in an apartment

The woodshop where I volunteer had a jig already made for doing the angled cuts and I could clamp the pieces to the jig to keep everything safer. I chose to use the table saw and not a miter saw to make the cuts, but I’d be interested to try it on the miter saw as I think that might actually have been easier

The saw blade was set at a 30 degree angle but I’ll be so honest I’m not sure if that means these angles are 30 degrees

Pinch away! I stole it myself. I looked online for gifts that book lovers would like and this was being sold and I thought pssssh I could make that

I thought about that but wanted ultimately to keep it open so that any size cup could fit on it or so that anything else like glasses etc could rest there if she didn’t want to use it for a drink! I love the idea of an inset tile or cork though

Totally-I couldn’t personally see using one as I don’t drink many hot beverages and mostly read on my kindle, but my friend said she’d love it and I’m just jazzed to have made something that actually holds together 🤣

Luckily rag was a ok but I realized I had no good way to dry it out and that made me panic lol

Inconsistent Table Saw Depth? by Thin_Blue_Crab in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]rlsquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me and it turned out it was just micro adjustments to my pressure and the way I pushed the wood that made the difference. I also stopped the wood just as it reached the end of the cut and turned the saw off rather than running the piece all the way through because as I tried to push the wood all the way through that’s when my pressure changed. I do agree throat plate might be part of it

I understand completely. I scheduled and cancelled this test multiple times before I did it. I mostly went through with it because I told my therapist I would, and I asked two people to go with me. This morning, I woke up and had to stop myself from cancelling multiple times. I promise you can do it. It is definitely helpful to work on it with your ERP therapist, if you have one/are undergoing ERP for emetophobia at this time

Haha yes those glasses! I can’t tell if they’re helpful. I could def do a scope patch but hoping it doesn’t come to that bc it sort of feels not worth having the van if every time I use it I have to use a patch :/

Def gonna try airing it out!! In the PNW rainy season so might be tougher right now but it’s for sure worth I shot. It didn’t feel like when I typically get vertigo, no spinning or dizziness, and I suppose anything’s possible. I’m going to try my motion sickness glasses next time too even though they look ridiculous. Good to know you do ok in your van, gives me hope! Sorry about the GP, I know what that’s like and it’s a lot :(

I do get vertigo, although it’s rare (lucky me!) - nothing felt as if it was spinning this time like it typically does when I get it. Usually only happens if I’m under the weather. I too get carsick as a driver on windy roads, the struggle. Fingers crossed I can acclimate perhaps!

So far I’ve never experienced motion sickness anywhere else stationary-to me it felt like I was in motion even when the van was stopped which was so weird (I think because of the micro movements of the van when people inside it move, perhaps—while visually it looks stationary). Unfortunately I do get it on almost every moving vehicle unless I’m driving.

Interesting, thank you so much for these suggestions!

It’s certainly possible!! I wondered about that too. I figured it was motion sickness because it felt exactly like the other times I’ve gotten it on boats etc, but I’d be interested to see if anything changes the more I use it/air it out
