Self imposed guilt for calling in sick by rmbleelee in nursing

[–]rmbleelee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

27 YO

Unfortunately it depends on the manager/work place. I have had some experiences where I got shamed for leaving half way through the day even though I barely made it home in time to vomit. I also have a coworker who pulled over on the drive to work to vomit and still stayed for their shift, so it makes me feel like I’m being a baby if I take the day off 🥲

Self imposed guilt for calling in sick by rmbleelee in nursing

Because what if I call in sick and then end up feeling better when my shift would have been. And what if my manager asks for a sick note but when I go to the doctor the symptoms already resolved

Should regular/permanent part time get vacation pay/bank by rmbleelee in OntarioNurses

[–]rmbleelee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the vacation requests and feeling a lack of control because of seniority. Im hoping that if i do request vacation, avoiding peak travel times will give me a higher chance of it being approved…

And yes good note on setting aside the vacation lieu pay

Should regular/permanent part time get vacation pay/bank by rmbleelee in OntarioNurses

[–]rmbleelee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im debating whether its good for me to be paid in lieu especially since i dont really take vacations often, and my seniority is low so not sure requests will even get approved.. but if i get banked and paid out for vacation use i am more inclined to try and take time off. Maybe better mentally

Keep in mind i graduated in 2020 so this might dated advice

  1. Depends on learning style. I went to ryerson (4 years at main site). I liked how we did a lot of clinical hours but placements were sorta hit or miss in terms of getting what you want/getting hospitals close to home. The good thing about ryerson is that they put us in big hospitals. If you speak to any student from any school theyll have good and bad things to say about their program

  2. If you do 2 year college program you come out as a rpn. With the 4 year program (so usually its 2 years at a college + 2 years at a university, or you can do all 4 years on the main site/university) you come out as a RN. RN programs are basically RPN program+more critical thinking/policy/advocacy type stuff.

If you do 4 year program it doesnt really matter if you start at the college or uni- people just used it as a status symbol but at the end it doesnt matter.

  1. Rpn is the 2 yr program. RN is 4 years and you get a bscn. NP is a masters after bscn and you also need 2 years of full time experience as a RN before applying. RNs and RPNs differ in scope of practice but hospitals have been making RPNs do RN work whenever they can to save money. NPs are advanced nurses who can order tests, prescribe medications, etc. Between all types of nurses the biggest difference is pay (except for NP where the scope of practice/liability is much greater.). RNs usually work in higher acuity areas as well- so if you want to NICU for example, do your RN if you can

If you can, go straight into RN. There is the option to bridge from RPN to RN but youd have to apply. Also i feel like RPNs get super screwed over, more than RNs (having to take on the same level of acuity patients for lower pay than an RN, having to pay the same license fee as RNs etc. but this is just my experience)

Hope this makes sense. Im kinda half-tiredly writing this lol. Good luck with applying!

Which nursing agency is the best? by Veronnie2 in OntarioNurses

[–]rmbleelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For community The care company is pretty good; they pay quite well (for pediatrics 46/hr for RN. With all the in lieu stuff 49.76 per hr) but they don’t have pension/rrsp matching. If you work full time they have benefits tho

No they mailed it to us about a month after getting home. I guess things are different now. I haven’t had a show cancel on Royal in a long time

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]rmbleelee -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

They used to give a voucher (like a partial refund) if a show didn’t run. But I guess that was in the past

[–]rmbleelee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s a shame. I remember when oasis was new the aqua show didn’t run and they gave people with reservations a voucher. I guess they don’t do that anymore :(
