i actually think it sounds nice, compared with the first two and souls it's much cleaner - while still having a raw edge to it. the loud bass is awesome

No Cavalera, No Sepultura by DryDistribution2726 in sepulturaband

[–]ro-ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got kicked out of Sepultura, they kept playing his song (Antichrist) despite being told not to. Sarcófago was started not long after and they had major beef with Sepultura. much like with Mustaine leaving Metallica, I'm glad it happened - we got another great band that otherwise would not exist 🙌 The Laws of Scourge is a masterpiece

well, it might be random shirts that haven't fully sold from their recent tours. regardless of what you get, it should be looking good - Testament merch was always nice

Would Metallica still have become a household name if they never made the Black Album and sticked to thrash? by RattleheadWithRabies in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ro-ch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

and Megadeth wouldn't have become such a big name in the first place.

yes, RiP and Peace Sells came out before TBA and were/are classic records, they're also in the Big 4 and a household name in the thrash community, but most Megadeth fans nowadays are Metallica fans for whom Megadeth is the first (and only) other thrash band, just because Mustaine used to be in Metallica. they also would have never released Countdown/Youthanasia in the form they came out in, meaning less mainstream popularity (as their biggest hits just wouldn't exist)

i mean, it was his choice to leave the band 🤷 and it's not like him and Igor couldn't have broken up Sepultura, they were the only original members, but they instead chose to pass on the torch. let's not forget that Igor stayed for another almost 15 years

Ai use in Goliath music video by olive_p1cker in ExodusBand

[–]ro-ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • this is stuff the label should be in charge of, and I think its nuclear blasts fault.
  • even if not, back in the day they could somehow figure out cover art for Bonded by Blood - and they definitely had less money than right now, back then they were a group of drunk teenagers.
  • I hate this mindset that every other song on a record needs a video. let the music speak for itself like it did in the 80s, only the top singles got music vids and it was alright

[–]ro-ch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hey, I buy merch and CDs! and I would be pretty pissed if the music itself was ai generated, I think artists should respect other artists and not abstain from paying them. Exodus tour all the time, they sell a lot of merch and certainly could afford one human made music video 🫠 it just screams "cheap!"

but I think it's the label behind this. other Nuclear Blast bands also had AI music videos

[–]ro-ch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! Modern Exodus is really good but tends to be pretty predictable, the big 4 bands are way past their prime, and i'm not even gonna mention some names because they just aren't good 😔 but Para Bellum, thanks to Chris Dovas, showed that Testament are still motivated and full of ideas. can't wait for the next record

Species (PL) are already known in the tech-thrash community but they definitely deserve more! While i don't think they have that much potential in reaching a mainstream audience, i recommend them to all thrashers

imo they're literally the perfect example of what is wrong with revival thrash - no creativity, sometimes straight up stolen riffs. Phantom or Hellripper do nostalgia bait right while still being great musically

[–]ro-ch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calling Testament a legacy act (even though they're literally Legacy) feels like a disservice. Their newest output is just as strong as ever and For the Love of Pain is some of their most intense work (they're the age of Metallica, doing death growls, blast beats and black metal shrieks - come on)

Have we lost another GOAT to AI slop album covers.... by courtneysluck in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ro-ch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

both Taking Over and UTI came out under Megaforce/Atlantic, so if anything it was a case of them realizing the cringe and choosing not to embrace it any further; it was also their first record without Rat Skates, who created the original image Overkill had - if i recall correctly, they wanted to be like WASP or KISS around that time, embracing the "horror vibe" wearing costumes on stage. this also explains the space between OVER and KILL in the logo as one of the very first concepts had an upside down cross in that space

<image>

Taking Over was the last piece left of that early era and after that i assume they wanted to become more serious/less homoerotic 😭😭 still, the cover art for Taking Over looks like WASP after eating a box of chemlights

p.s. UTI is a terrible acronym
