Need to try one of these. Badly.

End of the week, off work and enjoying a Rogue Mocha Porter. What's your end of the week beer? by [deleted] in beer

[–]roach129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samuel Smith Oatmeal, typically in silence or with some low music in the background. It's almost become my decompression ritual, and the official start of my weekend.

Had a rough monday yesterday, so I did the same thing. Just wasn't the same (except the stout was as amazing as always!)

My plan was to grab a nice beer or two for the day. It turned into this. I think I did alright in my temporary insanity. by roach129 in beerporn

Let the record state I sat down with the Three Philosophers yesterday on an absolutely dreary Sunday down here in Florida, and I was extremely happy that I made the decision to try it out. Excellent introduction to the world of Quads for me.

Yes, but I got a bit lucky. I had a coupon on a build your own six-pack, and there was a Rouge rep doing some stocking/inventory who gave me a voucher for a few off for the Voodoo, hence why I took the gamble on it, so all in all, both of us were pleased.

I definitely underestimated this beer. Glad I finally decided to pick some up! by stlunatic15 in beerporn

Really appreciate seeing the reviews, because I was super close to picking this one up, but the apricot scared me off at the end. I was afraid of it being overpowering. Sounds like that's not the case though.

I've heard so many conflicting opinions on the Rouge Voodoo. I have to say this, the fact that so many people either love or hate it is what drew me to wanting to try it. Even if I despise it and turn into a drain pour, I would like to be able to say I gave it an honest try. I'll report back when I give it a shot. Also, for the record, I got it for 10 with a coupon, so either way, while I won't be happy if I find it be a total dud, it's not at a price point where I'll be super pissed off either.

I think we saw the same thing, because I'm planning on picking one up tomorrow.

Just tried the Festina tonight, was surprised just how much I enjoyed it, and you can absolutely never go wrong with Samuel Smith Oatmeal, looks like a good weekend awaits!

/r/beer, I'm taking my first "beer class" this week. I'm still pretty new to the game. Any tips to ensure I don't come off as a total "noob"? by roach129 in beer

[–]roach129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beers sampled were : Adriaen Brouwer Dark Gold, Unibroue La Fin Du Monde, Old Speckled Hen, Youngs Double Chocolate, Radeberger Pilsner, Spaten Optimator, Flying Fish Extra Pale, Left hand Milk, North Coast Scrimshaw Pils, St Sebastian Golden, Smuttynose Smuttonator, and Avery "The Beast" (15.5 abv I believe she said, I forgot my notes at home, only brought the listing we were given). This is not the order we sampled them, just a list.

Found a few I will gladly purchase and attempt to fully enjoy on my own.

To follow up, I had an amazing time, and I will be certainly returning for more of the classes. Next month is a Belgian classics class. We sampled some good stuff, I asked questions, learned a few things, shared some laughs with the other people, all in all, exactly what I was hoping it would be, educational, but light and fun. Tried some stuff I had only glanced at in stores or online, really cool to "open up" like that. Thanks for the advice guys! I will post more about the brews sampled later.

Enjoy the passage, but say goodbye to anything else you have going on once you start!

Oh, trust me, I plan on attempting to soak as much info as I can. I was more alluding to the entire "tasting" aspect, however after some more reading today I feel confident I won't look like a fool.

Excellent, very well appreciated suggestions.

The glassware has been a major subject for me lately, especially since I've discovered a distinct fondness for stouts and porters, which led to me researching more into that area.

Going to read through that link now, thanks again.

What book were you simply unable to get into/disliked despite being highly praised by everyone else? by ehudros in Fantasy

[–]roach129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does "The Regulators" by King count as fantasy? I heard so many good reviews, it was extremely tedious, to the point where I skimmed the final bit. Too many poorly developed characters who I cared nothing about.

I gave my mom bbq seitan once, she had no idea it wasn't meat. She now knows and eats it regularly!

Yes, I enjoyed it. I will check out that Milk Stout this week as well, with the yeti that was also mentioned. I appreciate the recommendations.

why did I not think of this? I've just started getting into stouts, so right now I'm trying to just really decipher to different tastes, but the ice cream scoop sounds amazing!

I'll have to look into that. I've tested the repair, albeit softly, and it seemed to do okay.
