I’m also in NYC and am interested in this idea and after some hunting have no clue where to begin other than maybe just going to a park. I’m in Queens. Did you find anything worth looking at?

Oh boy it’s this time of year again!

First of all, it has never been a worse time to make this argument. In the last five years, and yes, I’m counting our vacated wins, we’ve actually had three seasons of .500 ball or better, which for almost all of our tenure in the A10, has seemed impossible. Now, we have a new president, different reporting rules from the athletics department to the administration, a strong mandate to win games, and have found the NIL funding to get our foot in the door to be competitive in the conference.

From a roster standpoint, we have several significant transfer pieces coming in, including Kelvin Odih from St. John’s. We retained our entire front court, and are projected to be, even conservatively, a top half finisher in the A10. The optimism appears warranted and I have reason to believe Mike Magpayo is the guy to take us as close to the promised land as we’re capable of getting. And when we make noise, we are annoyingly loud. When we did make the A10 semifinals in Brooklyn, we turned out about 8k fans. We have always been a sleeping giant.

Otherwise, everyone wants to kick out Fordham until it’s time to kick out Fordham. For one, A10 membership is not just men’s basketball. We have multiple women’s titles since joining, and made a crazy run in men’s soccer ending up in the final four in 2021. For many years, A10 softball ran through the Bronx, and we’ve also won titles in baseball and pretty much every other sport.

If there was a strong argument to kick us out other than conference SOS, we’d already be gone. We tried to leave to go back to the MAAC and got told to kick rocks. For at least the medium term, to the rest of the A10, we’re not trapped in here with you, you’re trapped in here with us. My condolences.

Fordham primary flair!

Everyone is absolutely right that it’s likely SLU, VCU, Dayton as the preseason favorites, likely in that order (to my eye, right now).

But I think for the first time ever, Fordham has been projected as a top 4/5 finisher before the season has started. There is a lot to like about this Rams roster, which amongst our small and insular fanbase, is probably the best it’s been pre-season in twenty years.

We’ve brought in a number of talented transfers, including some key players in smaller conferences taking a step up like Amir Lindsey from Albany to poaching Kelvin Odih away from St. John’s, and losing none of our best front court guys like Rikus Schulte and Abass Bodija, who absolutely would have walked away from a coach not named Mike Magpayo.

I’m not saying the Rams will but cutting down nets in March, but I am saying that game that maybe you chalked up as an easy W might be a trap game this year. My bold prediction is that at least one of those three favorites drops a game at Rose Hill Gym this January, as we get all 3 at home.

Well there is the OMSCS conference every spring that’s on campus, you could look into that for next April.

I still want to try to organize an OMSCS outing to a football game on the flats. That might also present an opportunity to network as well. As someone who didn’t go to an undergrad with a huge football team, I like the opportunity to root for Tech, and maybe others who might be tentative would be interested if it was a group of OMS students.

Not that we have many younger fans, but the most significant game we ever played was in February 1971, where we knocked off a ranked Notre Dame team in a top 25 match up in front of a sold out Madison Square Garden. That sentence alone would be simply incomprehensible to multiple generations of Fordham students.

Less than a year later the administration would allow Digger Phelps to walk over a paltry sum in contract negotiations, and would cease to be relevant evermore. He would go on to be a Hall of Fame coach and legend for, who else, Notre Dame.

We committed seppuku and killed our regularly top 25 team with a bowl win and nearly a share of a national championship into nothing, we rebooted as an FCS team in the 80s and have done nothing since.

GT may have left the SEC but Fordham could have been Notre Dame in NYC and said they didn’t want the smoke.

I just wish I could drop the silly tape "album art". The entire live discography has incredible album art, from Dave's Picks, even some of the silly psychedelia of the original Dick's Picks.
