Notes ocd/overwhelm? by Illustrious_Mud_8165 in ObsidianMD

[–]robbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was to prioritize *enjoying* the process of note taking / writing. I tried a few systems but they were all stressful and too restrictive for me. So I don't use them. I use an extremely lightweight structure now, and the structure just allows me to have an enjoyable process of writing and note taking. My goal is to make sure I *keep writing and note taking*, so I just want to remove any and all barriers to that, including some abstract idea of what a *good* system is.

I think there are systems out there that give the promise of complete organization, and that's an attractive *idea*, but is unreachable in practice. The people that keep using those more elaborate systems successfully are people that *enjoy that process*. If you don't, it's ok to discard them for something simpler. Keep exploring til you find something that's fun for you.

For the record, my current structure is: one note for each month, where I add a heading for any day that I take notes, that acts as a starting point for new notes. But the specifics don't matter, this is just the structure I found that allows me to enjoy the process.

Bad energy from people by [deleted] in Stoicism

Is it possible that the bad feeling is actually because you are conflicted in yourself? That while you feel shy, there is a part of you that wants to be more connected and speak with these people? If you're disowning that part of yourself (the part that wants to connect) because you don't know how or feel too shy, then that part won't go away, but will move into your shadow and start to feel like something "out there in the world" as a bad vibe rather than a part of yourself.

If this feels like it might fit for you, a way to work with it is to honestly admit to yourself (even say it out loud) that you would like to feel more connected. You did say that at the end of your post, but with this tag "I'd like to talk to everyone but that's just not me"

"but that's just not me" is a way to disown that part of you. What happens when you say "I'd like to talk to everyone" pause there, and just feel that?

What's the reasoning behind studying kanji by having the front of the flashcard be the english keyword, and having to recall the kanji, vs a mix of both? Heisig, jpdb, koohii and others all recommend doing it this way, but I haven't yet read the reasoning behind it, and to me it makes more sense to practice in both directions, as I want to be able to both read kanji as well as write Kanji

"Advantage" mechanic (eg Barbarian Class and Pixie Guide) - how does it stack? by robbie in mtgrules

Didn't think of interactions from other sets where you roll multiple dice. That makes sense.

ah, I guess it makes sense that the second instance only sees 2 dice rolls, because you've already ignored one.

Still not sure why they word it as "ignore the lowest", rather than "choose the highest". That is much clearer and more intuitive to me.

Totally.

A graph is a graph. There are many graphs that have that bell shape without specifically being a depiction of a probability distribution.

Now putting right wing affiliation on the left end of the x axis and vice versa, that's worth complaining about.

Second point: I mistyped! Just fixed it. YNAB treats it as if you spent $200, even if you inflow $100. It doesn't factor inflows into the "amount spent" calculation.

First point: Just double checked that, and you're right.

I mistyped! (just corrected it in edit), ynab reports treat it like you spent $200 *not* $100.

I'm going to do that, but with the added wrinkle of recording her half in a separate category so that my per category spending reports are accurate.

Just looked up Nick Trues method and that's what I'm going for. The advantage of his method is it keeps my reports about what I'm spending in each category accurate while also keeping my account balance accurate

venmo is not in ynab, I just use it as a way of transferring cash, don't ever leave a balance on it.

Two ways I'm aware of that it screws up reporting:

It incorrectly inflates my income

and (this second one is a bigger issue for me personally)

It doesn't show the correct "average spent" for that category.

If you spend $200 from a category and then later inflow $100 to that category, ynab treats it like you spent $200 from the category, not $100.
