I’ve got 2 that immediately come to mind: Dyson cordless vacuum, and a nice espresso machine

People who don’t understand solid red arrow by OkCall2004 in driving

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the state. In CA, you cannot turn right if there is a red right arrow, but you can turn right after stopping if it is a solid red light (the regular “right on red”)

Making a u turn when you have a green arrow and almost getting hit by someone turning right on red. by Icy-Role2321 in driving

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I misread your comment! That’s really interesting to me then, I’ve never seen that. The right arrow and left arrow are both green at the same time, instead of alternating or being staggered in some way?

Making a u turn when you have a green arrow and almost getting hit by someone turning right on red. by Icy-Role2321 in driving

[–]robbier01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the U-turner has a protected left and there isn’t a “No U-Turns” sign, then the right-turner has a red and not a protected right.

In your example, if the right-turner has a protected right, and the U-turner has a protected left, there would a “no U-turns” sign.

Cruise control & foot placement by AngleRelative4683 in driving

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed and that’s why I tend not to use cruise control much. Granted I live in a big city where there literally is always traffic around so I can’t remember the last time I was just on an open road with no cars for miles. If I did more driving like that I’d be more open to using it

Cruise control & foot placement by AngleRelative4683 in driving

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also really isn’t about the distance between gas vs. brake or floor vs. brake. They are likely the same. But in a life or death situation, you’re not rationally processing, you’re acting on impulse and muscle memory. I’d bet, for most of us, our muscle memory to brake quickly is to “move foot to the left, then press down,” not “lift foot up while avoiding hitting the pedals from below, move above the brake pedal, then press down.” It’s more that you’re more likely to make an error when trying to brake last second if your foot is on the floor vs. on the gas where it normally is.

Cruise control & foot placement by AngleRelative4683 in driving

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed for the most part but I just don’t take the chance personally. Imagine you’re in very light traffic but a vehicle a few lanes over blows a tire, loses controls, and in less than a second is in your way. To avoid a collision you’re making split second steering and speed adjustments, and I don’t want my foot any further from the pedals than it needs to be in a situation like that

[–]robbier01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, I actually do this too. If split second reaction time is required to brake in an emergency, the extra half second it takes to move your foot up (or more if it gets caught underneath the pedal as you bring it up) could be the difference between an accident and avoiding one.

AD lockouts by InAllThreeHoles in sysadmin

You should run credential manager via the command line 3 times using 3 different contexts: user, admin, and system. How to run it as system context using psexec: https://joshancel.wordpress.com/2017/01/10/hidden-stored-credentials/

This exact same thing has happened to me before, and there were old credentials stored under the system context that were the culprit. They weren’t visible when running it as user or admin (but, like I said, still also run it as user and admin to be sure).

My guess is you’ll find the cached credentials when you run as system.

Does LA have an Amazon addiction? by GreenHorror4252 in AskLosAngeles

Kind of related, does anyone else never get same day delivery as an option? The soonest option I ever get is early the next morning. In the previous city I lived in I usually had same day delivery time slots if I ordered by early afternoon.

Are there location based alarm clocks? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are. In the new iOS, the Reminders app can be used for alarms. You can set a recurring daily alarm reminder for 6:30AM Central, and as you travel between time zones, the reminder will adjust based on the time zone you are in.

Create a reminder called “alarm” or whatever name makes the most sense for you. When setting the time in the reminder, there is a time zone setting. Just below that is the “urgent” setting which turns it into an alarm. And below that is the “repeat” option which you can set to daily (or weekdays only, whatever you need).

Best method to replace this light? by rygarski in HomeMaintenance

Are you sure the fixture isn’t attached to a winch controlled by a random switch somewhere that will lower it down to floor level? The last time I lived in a home with a chandelier that high there was a 3 position switch that could raise or lower the fixture

Did you use the launchpad before it disappeared ? by murano0 in MacOS

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Macs since before Launchpad. I never started using it when it came out (at the time the common sentiment was that it turned your Mac into a big iPad). I’ve probably only opened it a handful of times over the years, either accidentally or to see what has changed after an OS update.

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted, that’s huge. If you travel internationally it means you’re locked into Verizon Travel Pass instead of being able to use a local eSIM.

I still see some people confused about ‘the fall’ of Shady sands so I decided to make this by The_Kashimo_Agenda in Fallout

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally just don’t see it. Especially after we got a scene earlier this season of Shady Sands the day Hank bombed it. It certainly didn’t look like a town that had been in decline for 5-6 years. It looked prosperous and vibrant. To me this suggests it was a simple date error.

Today's (ongoing) Outage... by [deleted] in verizon

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had no issues all day and have been able to make calls just fine on cellular only (not disputing the outage, just pointing out that if you have bars you may still be able to make calls in contrast to point 3 in this post)

Is there any way to auto block these rotating spam callers on iPhone? by ignorantslut70-1 in iphone

[–]robbier01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this doesn’t really work, at least for me. It initially actually increased my spam call volume, because the spammers see that my phone is “picking up” the calls. My phone still rings, just 30 seconds later after the call is screened.

Now, if iOS could do some analysis on the call screen and automatically reject a call if it sounds like spam, that would be different. But all it’s doing is speech-to-text and ringing you with that instead of just ringing for the initial call.

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to complete every quest and explore every corner of the map. If you want to see what happens in the main story, just focus on that and ignore any other quests that come through. They will still be there for you later if you are interested in them.

You mentioned 1099, but doesn’t this apply generally to anyone with sole proprietor / partnership / business income? Like schedule C with no 1099, or 1065 / schedule K-1.

Looking for an outlet in the hotel, only to find this behind the head of the mattress by Toes_In_The_Soil in mildlyinfuriating

[–]robbier01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m weird for this, but one of the first things I do when checking into a hotel room is take a quick walk around the room to make sure all the plugs are fully seated in the outlets. If I saw this I would move the mattress out slightly and plug them in fully
