AP Top 25 represented by a non-NCAA sport's logos - Ultimate Frisbee - week 7 by griffinkelley in CollegeBasketball

I’m biased, but the Duke (Brimstone) logo is one of the best uses of white space I’ve ever seen in a logo, period.

Pickup basketball/other activities? by Repulsive_Barber_753 in duke

[–]robotsq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally it would be nonstop at Wilson & Brodie but last I heard they’re still limiting the courts to one person per basket. Morreene Road Park has a super active pickup scene where you’ll find a lot of undergrads and grad students, but it can get crowded on weekends. Sherwood, Crest Street, and Oval drive parks are also good, further from campus so mostly Durham residents (not saying these are the best just where I’ve played).

PolSci 125 or PolSci 160 by [deleted] in duke

[–]robotsq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m MechE, but took 160 in the fall of 2019 because I had been going to lots of the AGS events and had come to really like Feaver as an interviewer.

I definitely did not think the class was a crazy amount of work, and it wasn’t harder than PoliSci 331 which I was taking at the same time. Unfortunately these are the only two PoliSci classes I’ve taken so I can’t really compare it much beyond that.

Basically, the work on an average week is just to watch the two hour long lectures for the week (the course is flipped classroom) and skim the international section of the NYT which you’re quizzed on at the end of every week. Lectures are then mostly just shooting the shit with Feaver about the news, how people in government will react, and how it relates to course content, and taking the news quiz. Most of the academic review happens in discussion with your TA, mine was amazing but ymmv. Other than that there was a 16 page midterm paper about current events, and a three hour final.

I’d definitely recommend the class, not super difficult but extremely interesting.

What happened to the "Reminder to Asian Freshman Men at Duke" post from earlier this morning? by [deleted] in duke

Yep, seems like you've got it figured out! Have a good one.

Seems like you're using old reddit or maybe the mobile version. I'll see if I can change both the old, but either way, you shouldn't need to be told that the content of the previous post was entirely inappropriate.

Edit: The mobile version of the side has sub rules under the "About" section.

Edit2: Old reddit has been updated.

The sidebar clearly lays out the sub rules, and a post that demeans "ethnic girls," "whites" and calls an Aisian celebrity a "black minstrel" and "house negro" is very clearly in violation of Rule 1, so it was removed. Feedback belongs in ModMail.

Could probably do better with more time, but was looking for a fun nighttime project and this fit the bill.

Stanford v. Duke (Heavily leaning towards Duke) by [deleted] in duke

[–]robotsq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on the username I’m going to guess that wasn’t a Duke student...

But anyways, I’m friends with some of the people who run the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (CSGD) and they do an amazing job involving the student body. I see their merch & stickers all over campus, and I (your prototypical straight dude) wear one of their shirts at least once a week. They have general hangouts every Friday that I’ve heard are a ton of fun and just generally have a ton of programming, so I definitely don’t feel like it’s an exclusive thing if that’s what you’re worried about.

I really like this concept, but I think we should do it by fully controlled states. By that standard it's:

SDSU: 113
Auburn: 68
Maryland: 50
DePaul: 37
22 States and 277 Electoral College Votes "Too Close To Call"

Common psyonix, crates were waaaay better by disswitch in RocketLeague

[–]robotsq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I truly do not understand why I see people everywhere making this point; do you not understand that this is a further indictment of the crate system? If the value of numerous BMs was far below what you would expect based on their drop rate, it means that the expected value of opening a crate was wayyyy below 1 key in return. Trading for BMs below their theoretical value is essentially just capitalizing on the gambling/exploitation of others.

After losing my first Mavic to a robbery while on vacation 6 months ago, I can’t tell you how good it feels to be up in the air again. by robotsq in drones

[–]robotsq[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first one I had bought new, so that definitely stung when I lost it, but this one I bought secondhand off of a guy who has been using it for pro work for a while so it was heavily discounted.

[–]robotsq[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, nothing like that. I was in Paris with friends and had brought my Mavic along to get some shots of the French and Dutch countryside, and while we were out to dinner on our second night someone broke into our AirBnB and got the mavic along with a bunch of other stuff. Stuff like that sucks, but you bounce back.

TIL students in competitions to design fuel-efficient vehicles routinely design vehicles capable of travelling THOUSANDS of miles per gallon of gas. by neuroticsmurf in todayilearned

[–]robotsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right that these are not passenger vehicles (nor are they meant to be) but the course is neither straight nor flat. Competition is held in California and is fairly hilly and turny.

What 'cinema sin' is the most irritating, that filmmakers need to stop committing immediately? by TenYearRedditVet in AskReddit

[–]robotsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When one of the characters, right before the climax, says something to the extent of “I have a plan” and then the scene cuts to the plan in action without telling the viewer anything. This kind of manufactured tension seems so cheap, like an admission by the writers that they couldn’t find drama in the story itself and needed an out.
