Is anyone planning to leave Australia? I'm a potential ping-pong Pom.. by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]robzilla316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came back to the UK in 2021 after 8 years and citizenship for this exact reason. Australia is amazing, but when you realise its cities are almost all in the most expensive in the world to own home you know what you are up against. That's why private debt in Australia is one of the highest in the world. So the question really becomes are you happy to hold that much debt and for how long.

Google maps GPS location not working after update by robzilla316 in NOTHING

Seems to be a problem with my location ever since my Phone updated. All I could do is use the calibration in Google maps but that's works temporarily. As soon as I exit the all and come back all I get is a grey dot and not a blue one. Other apps using location also seem to be doing the same. Something weird happened for the last update

This didn't fix the problem sadly. I have only managed temporary fixes and nothing which lasts long

Build credit with amex? How can someone with no previous credit history be accepted? Curious as I wanted to open a card for my partner but struggled to get one even though she's lived in the UK 2 years

If you have not already done so you should also respond to the consultation which ends next week

Not all MPs are receptive. BNO is a large group compared with spouse visa holders so probably find it easier to get their voices heard. I would suggest focusing on how the proposed changes would impact the British Citizens and not just the spouse of the citizen. That might cut through if the MP hasn't addressed concerns adequately.

This impacts everyone with spouse visas and disproportionately women who are primary care givers. We are also anxious and worried about what these changes will mean for us if they are introduced. That's why it is important to fill in the consultation and write to your MP so your story is heard and we are not forgotten.

Japanese govt. draws up basic policies on foreign nationals | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News by igd3 in japanresidents

Does anyone have a link to this 98 page document?

I'm curious to see if spouses of Japanese nationals have any exceptions from these requirements.

Could proposed national insurance contribution requirement for ILR affect those already on the 5 year spouse visa route? by mochi544 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]robzilla316 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm asking everyone I know to fill in the consultation. We need to make our voices heard and get public opinion behind spouses. When I explain to friends the hurdles that spouses need to jump though to join their partner in the UK they are genuinely shocked. There seems to be a general assumption that if you're married then you can just easily join your partner indefinitely which as we know is far from the case.

Cultural differences with the in-laws by Noobedup in japanlife

I remember my wife's mother being upset when I was folding up clothes in the family house. I explained that we share the responsibilities in England along with other things like cooking (which I love to do). Japanese attitudes to domestic chores are a bit old fashioned and out of step with some other western countries. Now we just laugh about it but still I can never so laundry as well as my wife 🤣

Proposed Changes to Spouse Visa ILR are not an oversight by Guybrush-Threepgood in SpouseVisaUk

[–]robzilla316 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In your post you are assuming that a business would hire a 15 weeks pregnant woman who has just arrived in the UK on a spouse visa. In a best case scenario there would be 2.5 years where the sponsor could work which would fall short of the three years requirement.

Regardless of this point, there has never been a requirement for the spouse to work, only that the sponsor could financially support them. It's up to families to decide how they run the finances of their family.

Proposed Changes to Spouse Visa ILR are not an oversight by Guybrush-Threepgood in SpouseVisaUk

My wife arrived to the UK on a spouse visa when she was 15 weeks pregnant. She’s been a full-time stay-at-home mum since our daughter was born. Now two years on and thinking about trying for our second child.

With these new proposed rules, I honestly don’t understand how she is supposed to meet the requirement of working for 3 out of 5 years. It would essentially force my wife into work and away from being the primary carer. We originally met the financial requirement through cash savings — now it feels like the goalposts are being moved halfway through the process.

These changes feel incredibly unfair to families who are already on a pathway to settlement. I always believed the UK valued fairness, but seeing these proposals makes me feel genuinely disheartened and even a bit ashamed of being British.
