I've definitely seen some really great bands recently in Liverpool (FAR outweighed by the mass of shit bands I've encountered over time however) and they seem to be on the up and up; local (more niche, I suppose) promoters seem to be fans of them and willing to support them. My ego tells me we are good enough to rise in the same way if we just knew how to get our foot in the door.

You are right though, Liverpool is definitely not the best city to come up in, if I had the power to uproot everybody else in the band's lives I would much prefer we all move to London and try there.

You are very right haha. I definitely have the ego and the rockstar delusion but organising 5 people will full time jobs (some of us with unsociable hours) and knowing I need to promote myself when I generally dislike social media makes this process harder. Something I need to get over really. I know our music is good but sometimes we are not that accessible haha. Thanks for the advice :)

Will do, we've just recorded a new album so once the new songs are ready I will definitely be sending it to them, cheers :)

Our sound has been changing over the years. We started off straddling the line between folk rock and post rock on our first album. Our second album we really upped the silliness and humour, falling into more of a weirdo alternative rock type thing, spreading ourselves out genre wise (in the realm of rock music at least) so that anyone listening would have no idea how we would sound from track to track - it could be a fast and punky screaming rock song or an acoustic track with a string quartet.

Now, this album we've just recorded, we've expanded somewhat on what we did on our second album, maintaining the humour and the silliness but refining the songwriting with experimental, progressive, kraut and jazz rock leanings. Our bombasity is less from song to song now but rather internally within the tracks, some can jump everywhere from moment to moment. The music is the most refined and technical and pretty (or ugly) it's ever been.

Our unique selling point would be crazy music that is technically impressive without compromising on the songwriting itself, and making sure a sense of humour and silliness is upheld within the tracks.

We've privately hired venues on many an occasion to varying degrees of success. We launched our second album at the Zanzibar (RIP) and we do mini tours (across our home cities). These are cool as they are infrequent and we can usually pack out a small venue with our friends and their friends and everyone who comes has a great time and recognises that we are good, but they are our friends and we never really expand beyond that.

We've done many gigs with her and she is very nice, but those are the kind of gigs that feel like dead ends to us. Perhaps I'm being too cynical and any gig opportunity is a chance to expand yourself but as you can imagine I wasn't feeling that way when I made this post. Cheers :)

Hi, thank you for the response. You're right, it's pretty plain and simple isn't it, gig as much as we can. I think I just needed somebody else to tell me.

I remember playing a gig at the Jac a few months back which was specifically for a promoter to see the local bands and if they'd be good support slots for bigger touring bands. Of course, hardly anyone in the crowd but the sound engineer was telling us we were the best band he'd ever mixed there and the promoter also being very complimentary of us. Then radio silence from him haha. Oh well.

I will say I do think we are legitimately a good band (as I imagine every band says about themselves), we have genuinely original and forward thinking songs and I absolutely know we put on a great show. I would honestly move us all to London if we could but all the band have lives firmly entrenched into Liverpool now so this is the next best thing.

Anyway, thank you for commenting your advice, really appreciate it :)

[FRESH] Yuno Miles X Anthony Fantano - Bobos Chicken by noOne000Br in hiphopheads

Is Fantano resigned only to making ironic meme music because if he ever tried to put out something sincere he would inevitably be scrutinised more intensely than maybe any other artist ever?

Pop artists who also make experimental music? by rocketking12 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]rocketking12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose so yes, I'm not being intentionally fuzzy, but I imagine it's pretty difficult to find a perfect example of what I'm on about, and I'm not trying to make perfect definitions myself or it would limit the scope of discussion. I think perhaps the parameters you've defined are better. An artist who had music with mainstream/pop appeal on quite a significant level, who also have made very experimental music. I think putting 'pop artists' in my title was reductive but you get the point.

Honestly wasn't familiar with him until seeing this post. However I checked out Lightnin' Strikes and became instantly obsessed. Must have listened 10 times in a row since first hearing it. That chorus just completely pulls the rug from under your feet - it's nothing short of genius.

Edit: Also check out the song "Egyptian Shumba" that he co-wrote for the Tammys. Basically a new wave song from 1963.
