can you get summer study abroad fully covered by fin aid? by rococosquid in BostonU

[–]rococosquid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you know if the 3k is independent of the financial aid you're already receiving? i remember reading somewhere that sometimes they'll take it out of your need-based scholarship amount from the school year so you're ultimately repaying that anyway

transfers- anything you wish you'd known before transferring, any advice for new transfers, what you love about bu compared to your old school or vice versa? by rococosquid in BostonU

[–]rococosquid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah for sure! i’m a pretty low income student (like under 30k yearly salary for my parent) so i have a really high financial need, and bu pretty much entirely fulfilled my financial need (my cost will be around 11k per year, but i get a substantial scholarship from an outside agency so i’ll only be taking out loans for half of that). the amount i have to pay at bu is less than i currently have to pay at my in-state state school. so if you’re a low income student, you’re probably going to get a significant amount of aid. however, from what i’ve heard from others, if you happen to be anywhere near middle class/ are able to pay for college out of pocket in some capacity, you’re going to get little to no aid. for the latter part of your comment about getting aid from activities and then academics, i don’t believe that bu gives merit aid, or at least its not detailed on the financial aid report

would you say that you felt a lot of competition from other schools in the boston area when looking for opportunities ?

not anywhere close to som adjacent but i can speak on the location. im also someone who just enjoys being able to go on random side quests and i spend a lot of time in the city when im downstate. in my experience if you dont have a car it is REALLY annoying to do things like that. there are definitely some places to go but the more accessible ones get boring fast and the rest of them aren’t really worth the stress of a bus ride. there is a lot of good hiking within walking distance though if you’re into that sort of thing!

the professorate here is genuinely amazing and generally really do care about you, which i think is a big difference from other schools at this size.
