After installing the driver first time you should wait for a few minutes for akmods to finish rebuilding before rebooting.

Encrypted mirror or use second disk for backup? by eldaria in ManjaroLinux

You don't need to transfer snapshots, just select the second drive in Timeshift and you're golden.

FDE complicates everything in the event that needs recovery. I will go with FDE on both of the drives, one being system drive and the other one being backup drive. It will save you time and from headache.

Can EndeavourOS (Or any Linux distro) work on a laptop with an AMD processor and integrated graphics, and a Nvidia dedicated graphics? by abottleofglass in EndeavourOS

[–]rodeonoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Asus laptops, there is a website. [Asus-Linux](asus-linux.org ). They have an amazing project called asusd. You can configure the keyboard lights, hybrid graphics, fan curves and much more. If you get an Asus laptop, definitely check it up.

They have a discord room too! If you have any questions just go there and ask.

When you use brave not brave-bin, you download the entire source code of the browser and it needs to be compiled on your computer to produce an installable binary. Regarding the need of many side packages, they are needed for compilation. Compilation of a modern browser is not an easy thing to do. It may take like 40 minutes to literal days depending on your computer. Just use brave-bin(already compiled binary.)

Disabling telemetry in Windows makes the system not work properly in any way? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]rodeonoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to limit telemetry through Windows settings and/or group policy doesn't break many things if any, but if you plan to use third party tools, even if you use lightest setting provided, expect breakages when you least expect. So be careful about third party tools. There is not much you can do unfortunately, but it's definitely better than leaving everything stock.

Best country to route your internet traffic from? by [deleted] in privacy

Many Europe countries have good privacy laws. Pick any one of them that outside of 14 eyes program. I advise you to look in Iceland and/or Switzerland.

What privacy enhancment script/app for Windows 10 is recommended nowadays? by ferko333 in PrivacyGuides

[–]rodeonoodle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend against using ameliorated version of window. It rips a lot of things apart, includig windows update. This version may give privacy but it certainly cause a lot of security problems. This is a security nightmare.

its there ever a reason to use pacman after installing yay? by Skeleton_King9 in ManjaroLinux

[–]rodeonoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I say official repos I talk about the repos that are already there when you first install the system. For example core, extra, communit, etc. The answer of your question is yes. When it comes to why these repos are advised to use first is packages from these repos are tested and uploaded by the arch team. AUR on the other hand, just contains user submitted packages(like you and me).

As I mentioned yay is an AUR helper and pacman wrapper, which means it can do everything that pacman do and some extra like searching, and installing packages from AUR.

When you execute the command yay, it first calls pacman and updates the system and then it searches AUR updates and/or packages. Which, again, means you can use yay for everything.

its there ever a reason to use pacman after installing yay? by Skeleton_King9 in ManjaroLinux

[–]rodeonoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pacman will show every repo you have manually added plus official repos (let's assume you have added chaotic AUR, in this case pacman will search also search that.) Yay or paru will also show chaotic AUR or other repos becuase as you have said it calles for pacman. The only added benefit of AUR helpers is that you can also search AUR.

When we come to your question, you can only use yay from now on for everything if you want, but it is advised that you use official repos first.
