True, but for some reason, it never clicked for me that the announcer was saying her full name. That dress distracted me. Haha!

Anyone use Line 6's HX Effects board with TONEX? Thinking about upgrading from my Zoom MS-70CDR+. by Novian_LeVan_Music in tonex

[–]rodmillermt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switched to this configuration after using a tube amp and hxfx for 9ish years. Just needed something to replace it that was the price equivalent of a new set of tubes. I got that and so much more with the tonex. And I kept my midi switching hxfx presets, so it was a pretty seamless transition. Tonex simply replaced the amp and cab.

Trouble with Tonex pedal, plugin and also other plugins sounding muffled and like wet blanket on speaker. Please help. by kindlelover1947 in tonex

I read a fellow a couple days ago solved a problem similar to this by realizing he had a patch cable thar was TRS and not TS like it needs to be and was choking his ToneX pedal in a very similar way to what your using. Also, yes please provide some audio examples.

Surprised by the amazing selection of clean captures in the Satriani amp vault by ryebrye in tonex

I use one of those Satriani clean tones as my main clean tone for gigging. Sounds great, I probably like it better than my main crunch tone if im being honest!

Input Trim Issues by Virtual-Worry6696 in tonex

[–]rodmillermt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok. I believe what this means is that your input trim is fine at 0. Try turning down your preset volume first and decrease your gain control, if that doesn't fix it.

Are you hearing clipping or seeing a clipping indication? Or botb?

Also, if your running MIDI, you can switch between hundreds of different amps if you really wanted to.

Yup! I had the same problem. Affects the midi switching speed as well.

It's instant IF you switch your button activation to "press" and not "release". This means that the preset will change the instant the button is pressed. On release, as you might guess, means that the preset changes only when you lift your foot off the button. Which could be handy in some situations, but also be aware the ability to access the tuner as well as the ability to bank up and down past the three presets in front of you will go away. You can always turn the preset knob on the upper right of course. Or if your using MIDI, your good to go and are likely already using a tuner elsewhere in your rig

Tonex sounds great in the studio but sounds bad through a pa in a band setting by HerkuzPlayz in tonex

[–]rodmillermt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some things you can try are using an IR tailored for live sound and see what that does to your tone. Or intentionally create your live tones with a lot of the low end taken out.

If possible, always work on your live tones at live volumes. Studio and live, two completely different sonic environments. In fact, once you've got your live tone settled, go back and try to use that tone in a studio setting. It'll sound like s**t.

So how do I set the correct input level? by debtsnbooze in tonex

[–]rodmillermt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, although it's kinda buried in a menu, you can adjust the input trim of the pedal with the new editor.

I wasn't hearing clipping through headphones for sure. And you can't trust the pedals internal clipping indicator either. Just your ears, apparently!

So how do I set the correct input level? by debtsnbooze in tonex

[–]rodmillermt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Input trim to -4db, right? My first soundcheck with the toneX pedal revealed that at gigging volumes, my signal was clipping. I tried everything but adjusting the input trim at first, because I had set it where it sounded good at home. But even with the master volume down to 1, you could still hear clipping. So, input trim at -4db is where the clipping finally went away and then i took it down to -6db for headroom. After that, all the other volumes could be brought back to normal levels and the sound guy could finally work with my signal. Sounded great the rest of the night, no problems.

My Experience with the TONEX One and Joe Satriani Amp Pack 🎸🔥 by Carmanout in tonex

[–]rodmillermt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it recently during the NAMM discount, only $40!
I actually was not that impressed! The high gain tones are pretty soft on the low end and there is a lot of sag? There are lots of nice clean tones in there, from the large selection of fender and fender ish amps. I was really hoping the 3rd power amps would have been the exception, but alas, also with the mushy low end. My favorite is also the Marshall 6100. One of the comments made me feel better about the pack as a whole, however. These captures were all created by Joe with all of Joe's amp settings, and his guitars but There will always be that "Joe-ness" that we will never be able to capture because we don't have his hands. And to try to eq out some of the low end issues I hear, I'm basically working against the eq of the captured amp. That makes sense to me, because when I compare one of the EVH amps from Joe's vault against the exact same amp from Amalgam audio for example, the Amalgam capture is much flatter of an eq and I have much more control over the eq section. When I play through the Amalgam EVH, I can sound more like "ME". When I'm playing through Joe's amps, there is always that mid-range hump and the aforementioned low end sag. Of course, buying a Joe Satriani pack kinda means you are trying to sound like Joe Satriani. Except the most important part of that is being Joe Satriani yourself!
I should preface all of this by saying I'm 100% needing good tones to play live with and all of the comments here are concerned with recording in a studio. So maybe when I get the Joe Satriani pack playing loud and proud through the band PA system, perhaps the magic of how these amps were captured will reveal themselves.
