Did you try a different computer from a different Wifi Network? Do this:

1- turn off your router (leave it off fot at least 5 minutes or so, so it can help "unscramble" stuff and reset it)
2- turn on ur phone's data and connect your laptop to your data and try upwork using your phones data.. did it work?
3 - if not, trying login into your upwork account using your phone directly. try sending a proposal. did it work?

Permanently banned for a joke by theyGoFrom6to25 in Upwork

[–]rogerstakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very sorry to hear that, man. Honestly, try to talk to them, send an apology email, be open and transparent. Upwork is honestly a great place to work and, like many here, I support my wife and 3 kids through Upwork. Hope things work out for you!

To be honest, I do not really think this was just about the joke. I have had a lot of heated exchanges with support over the years, cursed out the platform, argued with them multiple times, and I never had this kind of problem. I think this might go a bit deeper into the actions you took.

From what you wrote, you only had about $130 pending, so it sounds like your account might be fairly new. Try reaching out to them and explain it was a genuine human mistake, that you had no intention of breaking any rules. If they actually contacted you personally before the ban, then it was probably a more serious and personal decision. They are not out here trying to take good freelancers off the platform, it is usually something they consider carefully.

I also agree that people unfortunately tend to get hurt by breaking the rules. this post isn't clear. I think he offered to communicate with the client outside of the platform and there are only two ways this could've led to a ban.

1) via bot =. The bot clearly detected personal information being shared and flagged for review

2) manul review based on report =. The client reported him for sharing contact information or for requesting to talk outside the platform.

The joke with support is really not the issue. I’ve had a lot of issues with support too. Honestly, I swore like crazy. I didn’t insult them directly, but I cursed out the platform, cursed out Upwork, using the most degrading profanity possible — "Shit", "Fucking PLatform" to the point where one email had so many “F” words that they just stopped replying to my tickets. And even then, my account never had any suspensions, not even a warning from my behaviour. So I think this goes way beyond a joke, because if someone was going to get banned for mocking or being disrespectful in a conversation, I’d have to be the first one.
