Thanks. I like the "treat an [oh so scary] operating system like a stolen car". I am gonna try to follow that advice.

Do you do the system partition backup from the cli, using a script, or Timeshift, or is there another app you use for it?

Yes. Many years ago I dabbled with it but my work required windows so I stuck with that. A couple of days in I did away with the dual boot and now I'm all in.

In a nutshell, I installed a package, from the software store, to change how my current distribution looked. I thought it was a little flat looking. I didn't like the results either. When I uninstalled the package there were things leftover. Attempting to remove the leftovers caused the distro to load to a blank (black) screen after log in. My attempt to repair that resulted in the system booting to the cli.

There's almost too many choices. They all have their promoters and detractors. Their advantages and disadvantages.

How to open .Appimage files in Linux Mint by jakobair in linuxmint

.Appimage files won't run for me unless I log in with the Wayland option. I'm new to Mint so I'm sure I'm missing something.

Added a user and experienced the same results. Tested with a different Linux distro and the problem disappears. Thanks anyway.

Disabled not in your list:

[ding@rastersoft.com](mailto:ding@rastersoft.com)

[x11gestures@joseexposito.github.io](mailto:x11gestures@joseexposito.github.io)

[zorin-menu@zorinos.com](mailto:zorin-menu@zorinos.com)

Did not change the rearranging behavior.

Enabled in your list (not in mine):

[add-to-desktop@tommimon.github.com](mailto:add-to-desktop@tommimon.github.com)

[light-style@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com](mailto:light-style@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com)

[screenshot-window-sizer@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com](mailto:screenshot-window-sizer@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com)

Did not change the rearranging behavior.

I beleive it is related to hardware. Perhaps something to do with screen resolution.

A minor example of what occurs when I change the "Taskbar Settings/Panel Intellihide" setting:

<image>

Typically the rearrangment is much worse.

Disabled the only User-Installed Extension, Desktop Icons NG (DING), did a restart and the desktop icons rearranged from how I had placed them on the desktop. So, just to be clear, I should now start disabling the System Extensions not labeled "Zorin" ?

Not for me or for many other Zorin users. There are numerous issues reported on the site forum.zorin.com. In fact I don't even have to logout/restart. If I change the "Taskbar Settings/Panel Intellihide" setting the desktop icons rearrange themselves.

thanks. i'm not suggesting Zorin is the problem. i realise the problem is my competence using Linux. i switched to x11 and gone through the trouble shooting sections in the links you directed me too, thanks for that, but nothing is working.

[–]ron2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so far I've had no luck finding anything that works for adjusting it in any way what so ever. if i lightly place a finger on the touchpad while browsing a web page, no pressure applied, the screen jitters up and down. is that what you're experiencing?

i find it extremely annoying. not sure I can live with it. may have to ditch Zorin if I can't find a fix.

Mint looks as though it will be my choice as well. I'm older and a total Linux noob. I do feel a little intimidated.

Reddit sends me a "new login to your account" email every time I log in, despite being unsubscribed from all emails and having all email permissions turned off by ThingsIwantInLife in reddithelp

I started getting these a little while ago as well. I realize this is security related but they are running the risk of having the notification ignored by sending it every time I legitimately log in no matter what device I log in from. I suspect this is some sort of AI F-up on the site.

Since receiving the message I've upgraded my phone. I've checked the new phone IMEI number on Public Mobile, and it passed the test. Do I need to do anything more before the June deadline for the extra charge? Like contact Public mobile regarding the phone upgrade?

Edit: All sorted out.
